Dominica has joined member states of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) to unanimously call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Lebanon.
The OIF is made up of 88 countries from around the world and Dominica is a full member of the organization. It met on October 4 and 5, 2024 in Villers-Cotterts in France for the XIXth Francophonie Summit.
In a declaration signed by all the 88 countries at the summit, the organization said it was “extremely concerned by the escalating violence in Lebanon and deplore the loss of innocent lives in the Land of the Cedars in recent days.”
“We wish to express the unwavering solidarity of the Francophone family with Lebanon in this latest ordeal,” the declaration reads.
“Lebanon, a pillar of the Francophonie in this part of the world. We strongly call for an end to the attacks on Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, and call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire. We condemn all indiscriminate action against civilians and call for the protection of the civilian population.”
The group also called for international law and international humanitarian law to be respected in all circumstances and called on all parties involved in the conflict to work toward a de-escalation to avoid a wider regional war.
“We encourage all parties to give priority to a diplomatic solution to the conflict; demand compliance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the full implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1701 (2006),” the statement said.
At the end of the summit, French President Emmanuel Macron said he was considering a ban on arms sales to Israel.
Israel began an intense bombing campaign in Lebanon in its current campaign against Hezbollah, which has been firing thousands of rockets into the country’s north. According to Lebanon’s health ministry, 1,400 have so far been killed and over a million displaced.
Israel has vowed to destroy Hezbollah and most members of its top leadership have been killed in the current campaign.
Prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, reacted angrily to the OIF declaration, describing it as a disgrace and countries involved as shameful.
“Today, Israel is defending itself on seven fronts against the enemies of civilization,” he said in a statement on Saturday night.
“We are fighting in Gaza against Hamas, the savages who murdered, raped, beheaded, and burned our people on October 7th. We are fighting in Lebanon against Hezbollah, the most heavily armed terror organization in the world, which was planning an even greater massacre than October 7th on our Northern border, and that has rocketed Israeli towns and cities for nearly a year. We are fighting against the Houthis in Yemen, and the Shiite militias in Iraq and Syria, that together have launched hundreds of drones and missile attacks against Israel. We are fighting against terrorists in Judea and Samaria, who are trying to murder civilians in the heart of our cities. And we are fighting against Iran, which last week fired over 200 ballistic missiles directly at Israel and which stands behind this seven-front war against Israel.”
He said all countries should stand on Israel’s side as it fights barbarism led by Iran.
“Yet President Macron and other western leaders are now calling for arms embargoes against Israel,” he stated.
“Shame on them. Is Iran imposing an arms embargo on Hezbollah, on the Houthis, on Hamas and on its other proxies? Of course not. This axis of terror stands together. But countries who supposedly oppose this terror axis call for an
arms embargo on Israel. What a disgrace!”
Netanyahu said Israel will win with or without the support of OIF countries. “But their shame will continue long after the war is won,” he said.
The OIF is made up of countries that “[value] the French language and culture, contributing to mutual cooperation in areas such as education, sustainable development, and peacebuilding across different continents.”
To begin with, the word francophone is a derogatory word. Even worse than the words commonwealth and colonization. By those names France and England have taken EVERYTHING from those African countries and labeled them francophone and commonwealth. Have you seen how Paris and London among other European cities are paved from steet to street, wall to wall, all with these African countries wealth & money, and left poor, broke and still feeding France and England?

The north of Israel is uninhabitable because of the thousands of rockets fired against them. Yet when they defend themselves you call for ceasefire? Sorry, you too late. The time to avoid this problem was when Hezbollah started it.

The north of Israel will NEVER be inhabited by Israel. First of all Israel can’t even defeat Hamas let alone for Hizbollah. If they create a buffer zone, Hizbollah will still shell them. Israel has to learn to live in peace with Palestinians whose land they have stolen.
