Dominica and Grenada now added to CAN+ program

Dominica and Grenada have been included in the CAN+ program for expedited visa processing for its citizens who have had Canadian visas over the past 10 years, or a valid current US visa.

On Tuesday, Canada announced that five Caribbean countries namely Antigua & Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, St Vincent & the Grenadines, St Lucia & St Kitts and Nevis are now part of Canada’s visa-free travel program for known travellers.

But now information has been provided about two more Caribbean islands – Dominica and Grenada, concerning a different program.

Canada’s High Commissioner to Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia & Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, OECS Commission, Lilian Chatterjee said in a tweet that: “Canada values its relations with Dominica. Glad to announce that Dominica is in the CAN+ program for expedited visa processing for its citizens who had Canadian visas over the past 10 years or valid current US visa”

The same was said about Grenada.

Media houses and government officials from the two islands were tagged in the messages.

So in short, you still either need an American visa or need to have had a Canadian visa. Not the same as visa free entry. What about Dominica that disapproves up from being added to the same list as St. Kitts and the others? Thats the question i have. Especially when Canada is a Commonwealth country. Should we hold Canadians to the same task when they want to come here? As small islands we sell ourselves short. Many times we think we have to bow and grovel at the feet of the bigger countries when their citizens come to our shores freely with ease year in year out. but for us to go to theirs we have to qualify and go through a process.

Nothing to celebrate, it’s only a pronouncement of a source of cheap labor. Capitalists thrive on cheap or free labor, but unlike Arab Kafala states they don’t keep your passport on entry.

The Canada-Plus Visa Program is a sham. Granting visas to those who either had a Canadian or US Visa during the past ten years is utter nonsense. That’s the same group of people who met mainly, financial requirements to obtain said visas in the first place. Those who really need a Visa to enter Canada, are still in the same boat like before. This decision by Canada, is a testament to how putrid the Dominican economy has performed under the Roosevelt and Company Labor Party Administration. “Eighty-Thousands more years of Labor.” Leadership matters and elections matter even more.

What’s the big deal about going to Canada! We all Can go to China instead. Let’s be honest here, we know how Chinese love people of color and the country officials are waiting with open arms to receive us . that’s why they are coming to the islands, so let’s return the favor and go there and forgot Canada. If you don’t believe me ask your head of state

This is total crap this isn’t visa free at all, so you have to have past Canada visa or now holding jamaica visa, total madness. Visa free mean ppl travel without needing visa without any restrictions, Canada really think they are smart. The jamaican government needs to stop visa free for Canada and us all the country’s we need visa to go to they should need visa to come to jamaica also with conditions fair is fair.

Okay so I get it, they didn’t offer us the E-something, they just speed up the process which means they will grant you the visa in a shorter time. Thank you Canada :-D . Well I guess with the selling of our passports and the craziness of this world Mr Trudeau have to protect his country so we can’t vex with him.

Can someone, anyone explain to me what is Can+ because I’ve never heard of it before. Also my understanding of cosa free is not having a visa of any kind like how it was up until December 1999 when all Grenadians who wants to visit Canada needed was a valid passport, a return ticket and a proof of address that’s my understanding of visa free travel. Now they’re saying we have to apply for E-something and you must have a 10 years old visa and a valid U. S visa, so if I don’t have a visa of any kind I can’t visit to Canada eh! Oh Canada you want our labor to do the work that your people won’t do but yet you making it difficult for us to come and work for you, but then I can’t blame you. I blame greed and the Keith Mitchell government. There I said it

You still have to go through a long and difficult Visa application process and you’re still not eligible to work. So what’s the point? 🧐😒

I am wondering what is in the package.is there something that they are not telling us? Could it be that the countries that was left out did not buy what they were selling?just thinking.

It does not mean that if you hold a Dominican passport you can just board a
plane for Canada. Even with my UK passport I need pre clearances by the US authorities before I can travel to the U.S.A. If I don’t have that the airline wil not let me board or confirm my booking. It is easy, you book on line and pay a fee. You must also declare any other passports you hold. The US authorities have details of my Dominican passport but have no problem with that. I guess you could call it an invisible visa and I would be surprised if the same does not apply to Canada. Bottom line is these countries want to know who is coming to their country before they let you in. Even with my UK passport that entry is not automatic and if they refuse you they need not explain why.

This is good for people who had Canadian visa or have American visa but what about the people that don’t have a visa of any kind, do they have to go through the process of paying for application only to get turn down? And it does happen.

This is just a second slap in the face, this time with a silk glove on. Visa free is clearly very different from CAN+. If exclusion from the visa free list was an indication of a lack of trust, then begging for it and getting this response surely is confirmation.
What does Dominica and Grenada have most in common? Dirty heads of gov’t who made a mockery of the passport sales program.
I’m not referring to the newly installed younger Mitchell in Grenada

This is pretty depressing. There was a time when we had visa-free travel to Canada, but because of the short-sightedness and the outright stupidity of our governments, all of them, we have lost this privilege. This CBI program is one of the worst decisions ever. It’s lazy policy; instead of developing our economy and people we chose the easy way out, and it got worse. Now other Caribbean islands are being restored to grace and we are tossed a crumb; expedited visa processing. Expedited VISA processing.

Shame on our governments. All of them. From every political party.

Right now the whole of the Caribbean has visa-free travel to Canada except Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti.

“Canada values its relations with Dominica.” O Canada! They value their relations with Dominica but they are not trusting the long and growing list of new Dominica citizens just yet to give them free and open access. In a globalized world, maybe they heard or read someplace that illegal immigration is part of Dominica’s culture and they want to do their own security and selection for Dominica applicants like Mr. Warvet, Ms. Olga, Mr. Qikchenko, Mr. Magre Sar, Mr. Ting Ling, Mr. Dmitri, Ms. Carly Marson, Mr. Cabrit , among other Dominica passport holders who cannot speak one word in English or Dominica creole.

everybody you disagree with is a uwp not true? the ignorance of a laborite is a hell of a thing. Many people still exercise their right to be non political party based and speak on the political issues affecting the country. Not because i criticize the government must it mean that i automatically align with the UWP, DFP, APP or any other distinct political party that also criticizes the government. simply as a tax payer i have the right to speak out against the government if i see something wrong or i disagree with. But no to you if i dont like Skerrit i must automatically be a UWP. Common sense still prevails buddy. No more are people exercising blind tribal politics. Only fools and country bookie that does still do that. And them times country bookie getting very smart. So, only thing left to consider is that you are a fool.

This doesn’t put de ordinary citizens in any better position.
This doesn’t that Dominica is re-included into the visa free program…….it only trying to appease de normal traveller to the country within the past 10 years….because they have current information on you that the process can be fast tracked……only when they have credible up to date information
This is not an inclusion in the visa free program…..this will allow the Canadian authorities to look at a selective number of targeted individuals and their country of birth….less people will apply…..easier to monitor the smaller number of applicants
Just my take on it…..looks fishy…that announcement could have come out in the same report. This appears to be an afterthought following intensive discussions and negotiations obviously
