The Dominica Cancer Society (DCS) will hold its annual ‘Walk For Cancer Care” on Saturday, October 7, 2023. The event is one of the main fundraisers for cancer patients who find it difficult to pay for their treatment. The walk will commence at 4:00 p.m. at various locations.
President of the DCS, Yvonne Alexander, who was delivering remarks at the launching ceremony held at the Alliance Francaise on Wednesday said a new route was added to the walk this year making it easier for those persons who are unable to walk the longer routes.
“There was a new route added from Palm Grove and that route was added because there were some patrons who wanted to walk but felt that the Massacre and Pointe Michel route were a bit long for them,” she said.
According to Alexander, the commencement point for this walk will be out of the Alliance Francaise building in Bath Estate, “walk up to Palm Grove and then back down to Windsor Park Sports Stadium.”
She encourages individuals to join the walk wherever they can. Furthermore, Alexander revealed that the walk that normally commences in Massacre in the vicinity of Mams Supermarket will now commence in the vicinity of the Catholic Church in Canefield.
“The traditional starting point in Pointe Mitchel will be maintained, so individuals will walk from the vicinity of the Pointe Michel cemetery to Loubiere, Newtown, down Victoria Street, down towards the Bayfront, and to the Windsor Park Sports Stadium for the closing ceremony,” she explained.
She went on to state that similar to last year there will be a walk in the Portsmouth area.
“There are a number of patrons from the north who would like to participate,” Alexander stated.
The walk commences at the Bell Hall Beach area then through Lagoon and some of the other streets in Portsmouth and culminates at the Benjamin Park. She encourages everyone to support the walk. This year the colours of the T-Shirts for the walk will be pink and blue. The T-shirts only cost EC$40 with the words “Walk of Hope for Cancer Care. ”
The walk will be held under the theme: “Closing the Care Gap”.
Meantime, Dominica Cancer Society Youth Arm presented four students with scholarships to help meet their financial needs during the new academic year. They are Sarai Ravaliere, Joshua George, Brielle Samuel, and Sarah Harve.
The Youth Arm of the DCS awards scholarships to students who are directly or indirectly affected by cancer.
And why is the DCS celebrating “cancer” by ” walking for cancer”, instead of looking at the “root cause” of the disease, and helping millions to remain and operate healthy lives?
Please be reminded that everyone of us is made up of spirit, soul and body. Food alone does not make a person sick. Our negative thoughts, emotions, soulish problems and stress of life make us sick also. Proverbs 18:14, states clearly that “The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear”.
Why not look at God’s Word and the “spiritual Root” of the problem, in order to bring about total healed bodies.?
Remember that “life is spiritual”, and all illness has a “spiritual root/cause”. The cure is also “spiritual”.
Great contribution…
Why hasnt the Cancer Society recognised and considered cannabis as a viable treatment for early stages of cancer? There is too much information available on the effects of cannabis on cancer. I mean unless we in Dominica are also trying to only treating cancer as a business as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_7LZ8GLerI
You talking rubbish without any reasonable proof cannabis is a cure for Cancer, otherwise science and technology would have worked that out by now. Your link is crap and does not wash.
