Dominica Council on Aging to select new board members at 27th annual general meeting

DCOA President, Ophelia Marie

The Dominica Council on Aging is having its 27th annual general meeting on Wednesday morning.

The theme of the meeting is ‘Promoting awareness for age-friendly communities’ and will be taking place at the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall in Goodwill from 9 a.m.

President of the council, Ophelia Marie, stated that elections are going to be held to select a new slate of persons in various fields so that the work of the council can continue and end the era for the current board.

In an interview with DNO, she noted that separate from the election there is going to be a report that will speak about the various centenarians who have emerged, how they are doing, and how the council was able to operate and work with them.

“We also have to consider the proposed Dominica Council on Aging joint or group insurance as  that is one aspect that has to be discussed and there are also others like financial difficulties and maybe the need to revamp certain aspects of the constitution.”

Marie expects persons to show their loyalty as per usual and to be there early (from 9 a.m.) to register so that the meeting can begin at 9:30 a.m.

“We expect to have messages from the Ministry of Senior Security and hopefully from other persons,” she said, “we have the blessing of our patron who is His Excellency, the President of Dominica and we are looking forward to all of the 16 or so groups being represented and also the various individual affiliates that we have.”
