Richie Ferrol, PRO Dominca Diabetes Association

The Dominica Diabetes Association has issued a statement extending sincere appreciation to its numerous sponsors, supporters, and friends for their steadfast dedication and enthusiasm during Diabetes Awareness Month this November. The organization acknowledged the generosity and backing of the public in achieving important milestones in its efforts to raise awareness and provide education about diabetes within the community.

During November, DOMDA effectively carried out a range of initiatives aimed at educating the public on diabetes prevention and management. Its key objectives included:

– Hosting educational sessions and health fairs to illustrate effective strategies for controlling diabetes and managing its complications. Public discussions on radio channels covered important themes such as nutrition, physical activity (including sports and exercise), medication management and adherence, as well as adopting healthier lifestyle choices.

– Engaging mass media and the corporate sector to enhance the reach and promotion of the association’s mission through various platforms, including health fairs, radio broadcasts, and live social media events.

– Distributing informational materials and resources at local health facilities and community events.

These initiatives have significantly enhanced the community’s comprehension of diabetes and supported the development of a culture centered on health and wellness.

Looking forward, DOMDA reports plans to unveil several upcoming events planned for 2025 that aim to further the commitment to diabetes awareness and management:

The upcoming National Diabetes Symposium will bring together healthcare experts, researchers, and community members to discuss the latest advancements in diabetes care and treatment, with details about the date and location to be announced soon. In addition, DOMDA is dedicated to empowering individuals living with diabetes through the establishment of local support groups that foster peer support and shared experiences, ultimately enhancing diabetes management. Recognizing the vital importance of youth engagement in this effort, the organization will also launch programs designed to educate and involve young people in diabetes awareness initiatives.

“We invite everyone to join us in these endeavors as we continue to work together toward a healthier future for Dominica. Your support is invaluable, and we look forward to collaborating with you in the coming year. Once again, thank you to all our sponsors, supporters, and friends for making Diabetes Awareness Month a resounding success. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes,” concluded the statement.
