Dominica doubles diplomatic relations says Foreign Minister

Francine Baron
Baron said Dominica now has diplomatic relations with about 100 countries

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francine Baron, has revealed that Dominica has doubled the number of countries with which it has established diplomatic relations, since Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, was elected into office in 2004.

She stated, on Focus on Government and Development, recently, that Dominica now has diplomatic relations with about one hundred countries, as a result of Skerrit’s deliberate policy to expand the island’s international relations.

“Currently, we have diplomatic relations with about a hundred countries. Just looking at the period between 2004 when Prime Minister Skerrit came into office and now, we have doubled our relations, we had diplomatic relations established with forty-nine countries during that period,” Baron explained. “This has really been a deliberate policy by the Prime Minister.”

Baron underscored that as a small country, Dominica has limited resources, and requires foreign assistance to meet citizens’ needs. She noted that foreign assistance may not always be financial.

“We need outside help if we are to develop and grow, if we are to be able to meet the needs of our people,” she stated. “Whilst not all of these countries will be able to assist us financially, many of them face similar challenges like we face, and some of them have overcome these challenges, so their experience, and technical knowledge, and know-how, and advice can be very useful to us. And, we, too, can share our own experiences with them, and together we can work to find solutions.”

Dominica has established diplomatic relations with several countries, including Britain, Croatia, Russia, the United States, and most notably, China and Venezeula.

Several ongoing major national projects around the island are funded by foreign governments, through foreign aid, such as the China-funded West Coast Road Post-Erika Rehabilitation Project, Venezuela-sponsored Petro Caribe, and Morroco-funded Cabrits Resort and Spa.

Dominica has diplomatic relations with both Israel and Palestine (14 Sept. 2011), but not simultaneously with the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of China (Taiwan). Why not, if we claim to be non-alligned? Since 2010 we also enjoy diplomatic ties with Serbia, the country accused of genocide in Srebrenica and Zepa during the Bosnian wars, against their ethnic muslim population. On the other hand I see no relations with any black African nation. I that because we can not expect any largess from such countries or are we perhaps shunned because of, our close relationship with Morocco? Is this part of the legacy Roosevelt Skerrit wants to be remembered by?

Nonsense Francine to say Dominica has established diplomatic relationships with Britain when we never lost it. Even after independence we remain a member of the Commonwealth., not so?You should know better than that Francine because you were our High Commisioner in London, and for that reason not an Ambassador. You and Skerrit just using that as a red herring to make our other notorious releationships like Morocco and Azerbidjan more palatable. Be honest most people in the world don’t even know where we are and even fewer know about Roosevelt Skerrit.

    Is DNO a UWP media
Labourite have no time to sit by and complain
Everyday it is the same people who sit on the bottoms and criticise
If the PM would bring down Jesus Christ down they will still complain
Just to let them know PM will be there next election and the other and other
God have gave us this man and God will take him out when he is ready

Such arrogance, only the Father of Jesus Christ will decide when Skerrit goes. I don’t believe DNO is selective but it could simply be that those opposed to Skerrit are more vocal and literate than Skerrit’s, supporters. As for me, I will not stop voicing my opinion because his track record alone shows that Roosevelt Skerrit may be good for himself and his cronies but not for Dominica as a whole.

Remembering the song, “Of all the girls I knew before.” Lawyers, Doctors, priests, bishops, “professionals” of all sorts have given, are giving unbridled support to dictators all over the world. They make it their duty, their responsibility to defend and protect dictatorship trends, bad governance, corruption, criminal activities, just name the evil.

Remember, that it was NG Lap Seng, the Chinese billionaire, who was arrested by the FBI and has been charged for fraud and other illegal acts, who took the country of your birth to establish links with Mainland China. TRUE Remember that famous trip Skerritt made to Barbados, while a Minister, to meet with who? Pierre Charles former PM knew nothing.

What Francine talking about? What about all those foreign Ambassadors, in trouble with the Law abroad, in Italy, in Nigeria etc. that we don’t know about, but they representing Dominica and possess our diplomatic passport?

This simply proves it’s far easier to get into diplomatic relations than to create real jobs and move the local economy..this isn’t to say that forming bonds with other nations is pointless, in fact it can add value and create opportunities but more than that Dominicans need to see real economic growth..the cost of living is ridiculous and the pay is meager..make the environment conducive for genuine foreign investment, lower the taxes, give the people more disposable income to invest or to patronize/support investments..
Forming Diplomatic relations is cool but easy..Dominica need more than that..The Labour Party Administration need to get serious..stop distracting the people from the real issues..For the love of the Almighty give Dominicans a break..

You are so right, Dominica has little resources demonstrated daily by this inept, corrupt Labour Party government you are part of. These ministers lead by a Pm lack the resource of quality development, and cause Dominica’s poor people to beg for money, this is fast food development that does not work, now this limited Ambassador is telling us at we are happy to gain such relationship with countries. A poverty crated by this Labour government. Is that an achievement? Madam go tell Skerrit and the rest of your clang, go clean your backyard and that dirty cabinet supported by a loud outdated Speaker and that will ease Dominica of its strain and obstacle to quality development. I have not read such rubbish for a long time. Madam Baron, you are irritating us and I guess this position is one best suited for people who are credible, not associated with Skerrit and have Dominica`s interests at heart. It had not increased tourism arrivals, it has not increase FDI, it has not increased our exports to any of those places, no new markets for Dominican products, it has not increased wages, it has not decreased cost of living and surely has not made anyone in Dominica life better. It has only increased the amount of people we can beg when for example friends like Venezuela and Libya can no longer give we have some other meg cow to milk. Our debt has certainly increased. Quality friendship is more important than quantity and your claim above is no achievement. Dominica had nothing to offer any of these places. Vehmine/prostitute Diplomacy i call it.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francine Baron, has revealed that Dominica has doubled the number of countries with which it has established diplomatic relations, since Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, was elected into office in 2004.
      Francine! and????………………………………..
Ok I see it that way. Abstracting of sequence Since the crack appeared in DA\’s political crust and a group of former DFP-ites infiltrated the authentic DLP facilitated by a few parasitic authentics in an effort to profit from ties by way of under the table deals DA\’s dryland Pirates have developed this scheme of establishing diplo-ties every & any where a few $ sterling , Liras, rubles what ever currency can be derived.

      • The Mc Laughing Group
        August 26, 2016

Cont\’d : no matter what Francine, if DA/Skerrit /Jror Sr counseles alias the Neo-DLP may have doubled Tripled quadrupled Centiplued millipuled diplomatic ties ( meaning more avenues to encrich selves by way of under the table deals) the prettier thing will appear to the dumb portion of the population and the propaganding class. It opens the way for your agents to sell more passports and more diplomatic passports given to people including crooks in high places.
Miss Foreign Minister Statistics don\’t tell lies only humans do. using puzzels& tricks statements, Algebra word definitions Terminology & jargon is pure Software Engineering
Continue the abstract of sequence to fool the fools.
You forgot to mention what the opposition leader stated and tell us about the Sextupled aspects going on
        I rest my case.

      • Doc boy; I am not going to call anybody name eh, but somebody need to answer the question: Where is the ten (US$10,000.00) thousand U. S dollars a grope of Dominicans gave to a certain women sitting there with a long face talking about waste of time trivial nonsense about diplomatic relation, with nations which cannot help Dominica with not one dime?

After Erika some Dominica gave a certain diplomat US$10,000.00 dollars, an equivalent of approximately EC$27,000.00 thousand dollars, assuming the exchange was $2.70, to assist victims of the storm, to this day the people who donate the ten thousand United States dollars have yet to know what this diplomat did with their money.

They were on DNO holding a copy of the cheque, given to her, to this day she has ignored to donors, and the boos crook Mountain Chicken, has not held her accountable for what I deem thievery! But, how can the chief boos crook fire one of his subordinates when he is the of the gang!

        The Crapo is somewhere…

      • The Crapo is somewhere in the world signing diplomatic papers, and selling our passports. You see Francine and the rest of the circus have nothing to do, they are living off the blood of the poor people of the country, so every once in a while they come with some foolishness they know their supporters like to hear.

Some of the labor party members, and supporters including Francine does not know the meaning of Diplomatic relationship, if she did she would not have spoken that nonsense about diplomatic relations with England, a relationship has long been established, that is why Eugenia Charles arranged it that if a Dominica work in England for years, and they return to live in Dominica permanently they would not loose the social security benefits, or any other benefits from the system in England.

The problem with people like Francine is they think that because they are in Dominica style of government they know everything, and the rest a dumb people!
