The commonwealth of Dominica will be the venue next week, for two high level meetings- a donors meeting and a meeting of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) heads.
The donors meeting is carded for Monday 16th November and later in the week, on the 18th and 19th, the 62nd OECS Heads meeting will be held.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit described both meetings as important and critical.
“As you know we have announced to the nation that we will be having a donors meeting in Dominica with a view to informing the donor community of our continued efforts at recovery and also to indicate to them the specific areas of possible assistance that they can continue to provide to Dominica,” he said while addressing a press conference on Friday 13th November 2015.
According to the Prime Minister, at the donors meeting, discussions will be on the specific areas that they are willing to assist the country.
“It is not a meeting where people will stand up and say we will give you $25, we will give you $15, and it is part of a process. You must first inform and then bilateral engagements will be entered into and also at that meeting, guidance will be given to us as to how we go about the recovery, rehabilitation, reconstruction phase. It is an important meeting.”
He said a number of countries, agencies and institutions have indicated their willingness to attend and a fruitful and constructive discussion is anticipated.
The OECS Heads meeting is normally held in Barbados due that island’s centralized location. However, Prime Minister Skerrit said his colleague heads of government insisted that Dominica host the meeting which they expect will contribute to the solidarity and support for Dominica, in areas such as the hotel sector.
“We will be hosting the head of government of the OECS heads will be in Dominica on the 18th and 19th of November 2015. It is an important meeting.”
Among items on the agenda for discussion, according to the prime minister, is the upcoming Cup 21 Summit on Climate Change taking place in Paris.
“We have to discuss it and continue to ensure that we have a united voice there and there are a number of issues within the OECS, the economies in the OECS that one has to look at and to contribute to the discussions. So it is a very critical meeting at a very crucial time for us and we are very happy to be able to host that meeting,” he remarked.
According to the latest information from the Office of the Prime Minister, the OECS Heads “will attempt to visit Petite Savanne (perhaps Bagatelle)” at the end of the meeting on Thursday November 19.
I can’t recall any OECS heads of government meeting been held in Barbados, what would be the purpose? Are we referring to the donors conference? Listening to the interview I got the impression that Skeritt was referring to the donors conference.
I saw that OJ SERAPHIN was mentioned in respect of donors by a blogger . History should remind us that OJ had a donors conference under the auspices of of the CDB in Barbados .
All major governments were present in Barbados and the EEC / UK/VENEZUELA /CANADA /VENEZUELA/
FRANCE etc were all present and unlike this donor conference to fact find this was a commitment and pledge conference where all the major roads cut in sections were shared by Governments for assistance .Airport AND PORT CANADA ETC The CDB also committed ..
There was another donor session where millions were pledged at the nonaligned conference from the ,member states including Morocco, Kuwait etc
There were sessions of DONORS at the OAS USAID and the UN where the PM sought assistance and got pledges and commitments from nations .
SAWS -seventh day Adventist world service also was a major donor with hundreds of houses .They pledged to take over Princess margaret hospital but for a religious back lash

I can tell if DNO had any intentions of taking sides, and helping to cause hate in the country, they would not be careful to be selective of what the allow on their site.
