Dominica has signed an agreement with the Southeastern Asian nation of Cambodia for the exemption of visa requirements for diplomatic and service passport holders, the Cambodian foreign ministry has said.
The deal was inked between Cambodia’s Acting Foreign Minister Ouch Borith and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy of Dominica, Dr. Vince Henderson.
Henderson visited Cambodia last week.
The two sides also discussed ways to unlock potential in trade and investment, agriculture, technical and vocational training, ecotourism and hospitality.
“They agreed in principle to explore a possibility of creating a bilateral consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, and agreed to mutual support at multilateral fora, particularly the United Nations system,” the Cambodian foreign ministry said in a statement this week.
During his visit to Cambodia, Dr. Henderson also paid a courtesy visit to the country’s prime minister, Hun Sen at the Peace Palace, located in the capital Phnom Penh. The Peace Palace is the principal workplace of the prime minister of Cambodia.
During the visit, he praised the leadership of Hun Sen which he said has brought peace, stability and development to Cambodia. He added that his visit to the country was to further deepen bilateral ties through bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
According to the Cambodian foreign ministry, the two countries also expressed their intention to strengthen and expand their cooperation in the fields of agriculture and fisheries.
Yang Peou, secretary-general of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, told the newspaper, Phnom Penh Post, that he was pleased to hear that diplomatic ties between the two countries are improving.
He explained that even though Dominica is a small island nation in the Caribbean Sea, it still marks a diplomatic achievement.
“Establishing closer contacts with any new nation is significant. This reflects Cambodia’s growing influence in the world. No matter how large or small this country is, we should develop the relationship,” he said. “Dominica has strong connections with several of its neighbors, so this relationship has the potential to become even more significant.”
Cambodia has a population of 16.7 million people and is 181,035 sq km in size. Its official language is Khmer.

He was elected to a sixth term in 2018 in a largely unopposed poll after the dissolution of the opposition party.

Vince Henderson is looking for relevance in a government and country in which he is irrelevant. We know what he did when he pretended to be our UN ambassador and the PM knows as well. Mr. Henderson does that agreement makes sense? I guess only for officials but not for the common man who were elected to represent. Garçon just move there.
