‘Dominica: The Best Kept Secret’ garners praise at second launch

Cecil N.A. Clarke

The second launch of the book ‘Dominica: The Best Kept Secret’ by Cecil N.A. Clarke, along with a book signing and Art & Craft Culture Exhibition were held on Saturday at the UWI Global Campus.

The theme was “Capturing the moments and building unity through photography, arts, and culture.”

Former Chief Cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence recounted that Mr. Clarke has covered many memorable events over the years, including official events, and events in entertainment, educational, and historical sectors. Lawrence stated, “Clarke’s new book is more than a collection of photographs, which are the main highlights of the book. But he has also included articles in respect of Dominica’s culture and writers.”

Mr. Lawrence asserts that this book is strengthening the movement of cultural promotion, appreciating our natural beauty in Dominica, and celebrating our achievements, excellence, and arts and culture.

“The book in my mind has so many uses, it can be used as a gift to family and friends, as a souvenir for tourists, as a coffee table item, as an educational tool, and as a reference to special occasions and events in the history of Dominica.

It is a great tourism product and a must-have for locals and visitors alike,” Lawrence added.

Author and photographer Cecil N.A. Clarke expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed or assisted in the completion of the book.

The Best Kept Secret is a 304-page volume, wherein Clarke captures the sheer natural beauty of Dominica, the island’s culture, architecture, festivals cuisine, and people. Clarke, who is CEO/Owner of Eve’s Photo, has been a photographer for over forty years and has covered local, regional, and international activities.

‘Dominica: The Best Kept Secret’ is Clarke’s second publication. His first publication was ‘Dominica: An Invitation to Indulge’, in 2008. Additionally, he has also published playing cards, postcards, and table mats.
