Dominica to benefit from US grant to buy COVID-19 test kits

Dominica and 60 other countries are set to benefit from a US$6 million grant that will go towards the purchasing of test kits to fight the spread of COVID-19.

According to a press statement from the US Embassy in Bridgetown Barbados, the United States has quickly mobilized the fund to assist the region.

Each test kit contains supplies for 2,000 testing samples, including non-consumable equipment that can be used to conduct additional testing.

The statement says the emergency assistance is part of an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) response to requests for support in controlling an increasing number of infections worldwide.

The IAEA’s role in combatting COVID-19 stems from its expertise and experience in detecting outbreaks of certain viral diseases and in using nuclear-derived techniques in diagnosing them.

IAEA member states have so far announced more than US$10 million in financial contributions to emergency IAEA COVID-19 assistance, including US$6 million from the United States.

It is part of a multi-national effort to provide dozens of laboratories in the Caribbean and other regions with diagnostic machines, reagents, and laboratory consumables to speed up national testing, which is crucial in containing the COVID19 outbreak.

Countries will also receive biosafety supplies, such as personal protection equipment and laboratory cabinets for the safe analysis of collected samples.

Thanks Da girl for the insight shown in your comment. I did not want to be the only US citizen to say it. And Trump has nothing to do with it; it’s the US embassies working in conjunction with the Health agencies dealing with the virus.

Honestly speaking if I were Skerrit I would not accept any money or donation from the US. I would tell them straight in their face that they are not my friend so give the money to Hon. Linton so he could use it to help Dominica, since according to Roosevelt is Linton that is their friend. Oh but when Skerrit wife was pregnant she did not go to China or Venezuela to give birth. I wonder why? Hey Tony it’s a while I don’t see you in the US. You and Skerrit don’t like the heat of the US anymore? I know Leroy King is missing his friends man

8-O 8-O 8-O …………….. I thought the narrative being subtly pushed by some of those in leadership in the Caribbean, who seem to be sympathetic to Marxist-Leninist ideologies, was that the US does not provide any form of help for the Caribbean.

    Thank you Mr Trump.

Of course they have the capacity…they just choose not to are are selective in who they assist. Right now with so many organizations coming to the aid of the region, along with China etc. the US must save face. Not to mention all these allegations of them hijacking medical supplies from nations.
