Dominica to benefit internationally from Nature Island Challenge

nature island challengeDominica is expected to reap benefits internationally through marketing and promotion from the just concluded Nature Island Challenge.

Chief Executive Officer at Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) Colin Piper said an interview with DNO, that Dominica scored big time since it would be costly to advertise on the United States based channels which publicize the event.

The competition, which was held from May 21 – 23, pitted teams against each other in a series of challenges including grueling trail hikes, cultural immersion activities and photographic documentation of key milestones.

‘The other thing is I mean if you check in to what it would cost to get 6-8 minutes of advertising on NBC you will recognize that we hit the jackpot in the sense that for the production cost we were able to get that type of coverage and then further more it will be viewed on Cable Television’. He stated.

He said he was extremely pleased to have formed partnerships with 360 production team from the United States who recorded the event and assisted them with the social media, online and digital promotions as well as score keeping of the event.

‘We also thank them for the fact that they will be seeing placing at least 6 -8 minutes of this event on World of Adventure sports which will air on NBC on June 8th and further more we will  produce a 30 minute program that will then be shown on universal sports on Cable TV’. Piper noted.

He also described the Nature island challenge as a defining moment for the country.

‘This was the watershed moment for Dominica in the sense that many have thought of the idea and we were fortunate to pull it off. So we will be doing a recap to see how many impressions Dominica has received from this campaign once it’s all done and that will be one way to gage the successes’.

According to him the important thing is to recognize that the event was the first and the ‘30 min production will now be used to shop the event for future years so we hope that we would be able to get even greater sponsorship next year as we stage the other event’.

The winner of the challenge was the Team USA followed by Antigua. There were four teams; two represented Trinidad, One represented Antigua and the other was from the USA.

Piper said there have been a few thousand views of of images of day one and two; however day three and four will be coming momentarily.

Below is a video of Day 1 of the event.

    This is awesome!!!! Good stuff!!!

But I never heard of it while it was going on. Next project like this, DDA must roll out a mega local campaign so that everyone in DA knows whats going on and is excited about it.

It could also be advertised, through the local campaign, to all the visitors already on the island and to find a way for them to participate somehow, even if through a fun party at the end of it with all the media and a band and all the local gliteratti, so our visitors can end up on TV somewhere in the world and websites. Our vistors would love that and it would only add to, in a positive way, their memories of Dominica.

It is just as important that everyone on island knows at the time, when these events are occuring. Anyway, sounds like a great step forward.

What an awful negative comment. It is better to have good spirited gays than people with nasty spirits not wishing their own country well. The gays are not troubling or taking any notice of you, so why are you so concerned about them? What we think about, we bring about, so lighten up and lets move forward.

Really like the idea of this becoming an annual international event . That said was disappointed not to see a team from the host country, anyone know the reason why there wasn’t?
