Dominica to get more funds from World Bank

Dominica is expected to receive an additional US31 million in World Bank funding

Dominica is expected to receive more funding from the World Bank.

Caribbean Country Director of the World Bank, Tahseen Sayed Khan made the disclosure at the signing ceremony on Thursday, of a US$65-million loan agreement between Dominica and the World Bank for projects to help build a climate resilient island in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

The projects will include Emergency Agricultural Livelihood and Housing Recovery.

“I am very hopeful that in the coming few months we will be able to sign a third project agreement to provide you additional financing for the infrastructure side that will be up to the tune of $31 million and further on the geothermal side as well,” Khan said.

She said from the World Bank side, this is the highest ever financing for Dominica.

“I would personally like to do more, but we have other partners as well who are deeply committed and I think we can really contribute to your aspirations for becoming a climate resilient nation,” Khan stated.

Be patriotic instead of onemanistic.

More debts, by now our national debt must be one trillion dollars. I noticed Skeritt has been boasting in terms of the amount of money his government has been disbursing to the people of Dominica, post Maria. However, he has been very quiet when it comes to the national debt. Last week he said when he retires, he wants to have his own church, I hope he will be honest enough to tell his followers of the church’s debt, but again, the man might retire with so much money their will be no need to inform his followers of anything. It might be a case of, is it none of your damn business, how Father Skeritt spends his money.

Let me quote Edison for you Roy. “HAVE YOU EVER SEE OR HEARD THEY CONFISCATE A COUNTRY FOR DEBTS? Debts are forgiven”.

And another qoute of him “debt is not a problem. Is the ability to pay it back. And all countries have debts. Even the greatest USA have trillions in debts”.

So eddo already answer all ur questions re debts ok Roy?

Earl is very good at helping us understand debts ok Roy?

So u have enough people to give advice instead of a government who have gain respect universally including by UWP.

Ask Joseph Issac and he will tell u how much respect our PM have.

DA sold down the river long ago. Very sad. They know that it is money down the drain and certain leaders will profit, but it is just business as usual. The Bank owns the place.

@Tetrahydrocanabinol – The climate change propagandists must tell us when in history was the climate ever stagnant and unchanging.

From time immemorial, the climate in different places of the globe has always been changing cycling between various extremes.

At times, I wonder if there isn’t a hidden agenda at work using as its cover this thing called ‘climate change’.

Lennox and Spraggs! Do you have a problem with that?
Well, write the World Bank again, because it seems the more YOU write the more money Skerrit getting.

      May 12, 2018

You should be advocating for good stewardship of that money. We should see tangible and feasible results. Lennox has the right as leader of the opposition to have an input on how the money is spend. The problem arises when you and Lennox, and Skerritt politicize something that should be for the good of all Dominicans. Please let us complete the projects we have started. I want to see some ribbon cuttings rather than those announcements that another project have been undertaken.

Well well well, the World Bank want Skerrit to win the election. Lennox need to investigate that right away, that’s corruption.

Skerrit like to go grin teeth and take them ppl Money in Large Chunks, but he still not putting the necessary Capital investments in place to drive the economy in order to pay the people back.
No other gov’t in the History of Dominica has had access to more funds than this current DLP, but yet still Dominicans living the hardest now…

  13. Hurricane Skerrit
    May 11, 2018

Those people must be mocking Dominica with that “climate resilient nation” thing of Skerrit. Neither America, The UK, France, China is climate resilient is Dominica that is being constantly destroyed by Hurricane Skerrit that is climate resilient nation? In 20 days time is the start of the 2018 hurricane season and more than 70% of the people are without a roof over their heads, over 80% are without electricity, over 40% are without water, no foods in the soil, no mangoes, breadfruits, jellies to feed us for a week in the event of a hurricane and all you there buying into Skerrit’s nonsense. The truth is, Dominica has NEVER been as vulnerable as Skerrit has made us.

But DNO, wasn’t this US$65million supposed to be a grant? So nobody going to point out that Skerrit was lying? And what are the terms of this loan? Taking a loan to build houses for people- how are we going pay this back? Who is gonna pay this back.
Just wait , post elections in 2020 it will be 20% VAT!

The amazing thing about the internet is that there is something called a ‘search engine’ where you can type in things like ‘World Bank Dominica Housing Reconstruction Project’ and get links to articles like this:
      http://www.worldbank.org/en/news/press-release/2018/04/13/world-bank-provides-us65-million-for-dominicas-post-maria-reconstruction

“This represents the World Bank’s highest ever financing for Dominica and is part of a larger US$115 million package of support. that includes financing of US$65 million in concessional terms and US$50 million in grant financing from the International Development Association’s (IDA) Crisis Response Window.”

      And this: http://documents.worldbank.org/curated/en/799351523844037096/pdf/Dominica-Housing-project-appraisal-document-pad-P166537-04042018-04042018.pdf

Which clearly states that the grant is 20 Million USD and 10 million USD loan.

      The internet is amazing!

Lol ok. Becuz last year skerrit was acting like it was all grant, no worries everything for free- but thanks for the info. Skerrit must have been the one editing the World Bank website, we must give him credit for that. thats straight from his mouth.

Nonetheless, since the gov’t is so transparent, and Google has all the answers- how is the country gonna pay up this additional debt? Please, don’t stop halfway, 50% is a failing grade in any school. So come on and gimme the answers.

Who is going to watch the money, that is a lot of money. Who is going to watch the money to make sure it is spent on what it is intended for and does not get syphoned off and deposited in nefarious characters overseas bank accounts? Who and which trusted persons have been watching the millions already donated?

Climate change is a hoax, the world is getting cooler not warmer.

      May 11, 2018

What a paradox. If the world is getting cooler isn’t this a change ? Unbelievable.

      • May 14, 2018

There is the term “climate change” and there is “global warming” to me they are not the same.

Climate change means any change of the atmosphere– wherever it happens; global warming means just that–it is getting warmer and warmer around the World (Globe)
