Dominica to make $80,000 annual contribution to World Pediatric Project

signing of MOU

Dominica has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the World Pediatric Project (WPP) under which the government will make available EC $83,970 annually as its contribution to the programme.

“It shows the commitment that the WPP and the Government of Dominica have put together,” Health Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre said during the signing ceremony last week. “As you heard, 311 interventions have gone on since 2008 which is definitely a significant number and the cost associated with those interventions is very significant as well.”

According to Dr. McIntyre, just formalizing the commitment means a lot to the government.

He said that in most situations, it’s always individuals at the lower end of the economic ladder who face the brunt of the issues.

“Those that are less fortunate face it more than the others,” he stated.

He continued, “Many of us may have health insurance and many of us may have means to go elsewhere to get such interventions.”

Dr. McIntyre added, “That means a lot for us and with the WPP it’s just a way of expanding our pediatric care service in Dominica.”

The WPP closes gaps in access to surgical care by developing comprehensive, long-term programs and partnerships to meet both short-term and long-term needs. The project provides advanced care to thousands of children in need each year while also helping to strengthen the capacity of local healthcare systems through health worker training and infrastructure development.

The WPP has been functioning in the OECS for almost two decades and in Dominica since 2008.

To date, 311 children from Dominica have benefited from the programme.

Nothing is wrong with the physical land; the ” dirt” we are mold from, and walk upon in Dominica; nevertheless, something is radically wrong with the mind, body, and soul of our people!
We are not only ignorant; we are the most stupid people on the planet Earth, breathing God’s oxygen.

We have a situation where more than too often we see our people on Television, and in news media, such as DNO begging for money to visit other islands to seek medical attention.
At this moment we see on DNO a relative of mine a fire-fighter (civil servant) who should have some sort of governmental insurance to pay for his medical treatment which can be no more than physiotherapy which only involve psychical exercise, people are making collection to send him to Jamaica.

In spite of this dilemma in our country; Roosevelt Skerrit has committed more than eighty thousand dollars annually to some organization which may never spend a dime of all proceeds on a child in Dominica.

      Con:
In view of our people’s suffering, shouldn’t a fund be established in which that almost eighty-four thousand dollars could be deposited annually to help people such as Mr. Robin, and children and other disadvantage people of our country?

Our nation is the poorest in the Western Hemisphere, yet Roosevelt endeavors to push his flat square head into a round hole, when shall the people rise up against corruption in our country?

Some may suggest the amount is not very much; but in our country every penny is needed, some sick poor soul in Dominica needs that money.

I have said it over and over that this finance department of this country Skerrit (Dominica) has money. Whoever or wherever is holding this cash tin…my word there is dollars in there. But for those who are not recipients of this cash tin please don’t be envious. Please don’t think of being part of it. Please don’t personally accept nothing that is derived from this cash tin. Leave it all to King Satan and his goblins and for those like the WPP who do not know better.

This contribution by the Government of Dominica on behalf of our children is very commendable. However Honourable Irving Mc Intyre the hospital urgently needs a full-time Obstetrician to oversee births at the maternity ward.
I trust that your Ministry will urgently put plans in place to remedy this lacuna in our health service.

“This contribution by the Government of Dominica on behalf of our children is very commendable.”
Mark whereas you believe that is commendable, and may even suggest the amount is small; I may agree that less (<) than a hundred thousand dollars is a mega amount.
Nevertheless; it is my opinion, that even the first contribution is needed in the country: i.e; take a look at our home boy; and when I say home boy; it does not mean we are or were in a gang; beside you and I are too old to be gang-bangers!

      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!
I simple mean we are from the same village: In any event, perhaps there should be a fund in which such money could be deposited to help our people prior to thinking of helping the rest of the world; too often we see our native people begging for money to travel elsewhere for medical treatment. In the case of Robin, there is no sort of surgery I know of that can resolve the aftermath of a stroke especially if it is a paralytic stroke; nevertheless,…

‘ I know of that can resolve the aftermath of a stroke especially if it is a paralytic stroke; nevertheless,…’

So, I would like to finish this by saying, I do not know of any surgery that can resolve the aftermath of a stroke, especially if it is a paralytic stroke; nevertheless, that money could be invested in a therapeutic unit in Dominica where people such as doctors, and people trained in that sort of science could treat such patients on the island.

Be reminded after someone suffer a stroke, if they are able to speak, recognize, people and move, the only treatment; boils down to taking some form of blood thinners, and physical exerciser period!

Wow, what a great gesture. To put this in perspective we are talking roughly 0.003% of the missing CBI money. So what is this? A bit of cheap propaganda or generosity? I let all you decide and put judgement on YOUR government.
