Dominica registered its first gold medal at the 5th ALBA Games in Venezuela when the Domino team of Lisa Boston & Yarilys Diaz teamed up to win the Domino female pairs competition Thursday night.
The two ladies beat the other Venezuelan pairs into second and third place.
The other Dominican team in the competition of Jane Remie & Sandra Robin came fourth.
Lisa Boston says she feels proud to have won Gold for Dominica.
Meantime Dominica recorded two medals in track and field on Thursday.
Phillip Nathan Telemacque picked up Dominica’s first medal recording a bronze in the Men’s High Jump.
Nathan jumped 1.90 meters in the Men’s High Jump Final.
Verrold Sam of St Vincent won the gold medal with a Jump of 2 meters to clear the bar.
Venezuela placed 2nd.
And Carifta Games gold medalist Addison James secured a Bronze Medal in Men’s Javelin.
James threw 51.97 meters with the 800 gram Javelin.
It’s a new personal best for James at that current Javelin weight.
The Medals continued to flow for Dominica with the Dominica girls football team receiving bronze medals for finishing third in Girls Football.
Dominica’s medal count now stands at 5, with one Gold medal in Domino, one Silver medal in boxing and two bronze medals in Track and Field and one Bronze medal in Girls Football.
The hunt for medals continues on Friday with Dominica still in the hunt for a medal in the Boys Under 17 Basketball tournament.
Dominica plays Nicaragua in today’s match.
Dominica is also be looking for more medals in athletics with the athletes participating in the 3rd day of events for track and field on Friday.
