Secret Bay’s Gregor Nassief, among the Caribbean 25 most interesting people

The owner of Secret Bay Hotel, one of the popular recent additions to Dominica’s Hotel and Tourism Sector and the man behind the famous letters to the shareholders of regional airline LIAT, has been selected among the Caribbean’s 25 most interesting people for 2013 by the Caribbean Journal.

Hotelier, Gregor Nassief, has been described by the Caribbean Journal as being among the “most innovative hoteliers in the Caribbean — helping transform the Fort Young Hotel and make the boutique Secret Bay one of the hottest destinations in the region. (Not to mention his regional commentary on the ongoing issues with LIAT)”.

The Caribbean Journal also named the Prime Minister for St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves for his role in speaking on the behalf of the Caribbean region— from taking on the United Nations on the cholera issue to strong criticism of the Dominican Republic’s controversial citizenship ruling.

“St Vincent isn’t a large country, and yet, Gonsalves continues to be heard,” according to the publication.

Tyrone Wilson who took the award for CJ’s Caribbean Entrepreneur of the Year in 2012, is one of the leading media innovators in the Caribbean, with his eMedia Interactive, Ltd Company. “He’s trying to change the way the Caribbean watches television, and, so far, he’s succeeding,” the journal stated.

Andrew Holness who was for a brief time was Jamaica’s Prime Minister in 2011, and remains one of his country’s most articulate and press-savvy advocates internationally (and, some would argue better than current Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller).. After surviving a hard-fought party leadership challenge from former Finance Minister Audley Shaw, Holness proved that he’s a pretty tough politician, too.

Of singing sensation, Rihanna, the Caribbean Journal said, “Like Bolt, Rihanna has become synonymous with the Caribbean. The Bajan superstar continues to be at the centre of most music industry conversations, whether you like her music or you don’t. And she continues to market Barbados tourism.”

“Tessanne Chin, CJ’s Artist of the Year made headlines earlier this month in winning the NBC show “The Voice,” uniting the Caribbean in a way largely unseen before. Chin was another reminder of the evergreen power of “Brand Jamaica,” and of the region’s talent for punching far above its weight,” explained in identifying the Jamaican singer as one of its picks.

The Caribbean Journal was founded in 2011 with the vision, to provide news, commentary and analysis in a way that the Caribbean had not yet seen. It is now the Caribbean’s leading digital newspaper, with 24/7, original content covering news, travel, politics and opinion from more than 20 countries and territories.

Congrats Mr. Gregor…you are truly an innovative developer. However, please do Dominica a favour and explain to the PM the type of tourism that bests suits Dominica. It is not a massive concrete structure at public works site or the Morroco concrete jungle at the Cabrits that will attract visitors to Dominica. It is the simple, environmentally friendly, low-impact, boutique hotels that blend into the natural landscape and enhance it. You may have better luck convincing him than the rest of us tourism player. Happy and prosperous 2014 to you.

Congratulations Gregor Nassief! I read with interest your letters to LIAT. You really shook them up!
You are an excellent advocate, an outspoken voice, bold and courageous for also all LIAT passengers who have had to put up with LIAT throughout those years and will be in the future.
You have done well; not afraid to challenge LIAT to providing better and excellent passenger service. I was 100 per cent behind you, agreeing with all what you stated. You bet you were/are greatly appreciated.
Dominica and the world in general are in dire need of people like you who will do your utmost to make customer service and others a happy and pleasant experience.
You deserve the most interesting people (person) award. God bless you too for what you have done! :)

    Congratulations Gregor.

Gregor can you tell us whether or not the Moroccan Hotel is the interest of a privateer.

How do you feel about the government involvement in building hotels to compete with private investors.
