Dominican and french music associations to hold “golden note” concert

The Association of Musical Expression Francilienne (A.F.E.M) in collaboration with Sunset Bay Club, the Division of Culture and the Dominica Association of Music Educators(DAME) will be hosting a music contest “Les Cle D’Or (Golden Note) scheduled for November 8th 2012 at the UWI Open campus. This will be followed by a Piano recital at 7:00pm by Mr. Gerard Gahnassia.

The A.F.E.M was founded in 1992 by Gerard Gahnassia, a concert pianist. The goal is to organise concerts, workshops and competitions to promote young musical talent. The event is held annually and brings together participants of all ages and all walks of life who are musically literate.

Although this competition was initiated in 1992, it has only been available in the French territories until now. Dominica is the first English speaking territory invited to participate. It is therefore an excellent opportunity for our musicians to be assessed by professionals.

The contest has 12 levels (Initial to excellence). The best candidate in their level will receive the “Golden Note” and a voucher which will partly finance a ten day scholarship with Mr. Gahnassia and his personal assistant. Besides the Golden Note, silver and bronze medals will be awarded as well as certificates.
