Dominicans are being encouraged to activate their own community watch program to help fight crime during this festive season.
The call came from Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Superintendent George Theophile while addressing a press conference held on Friday.
According to him, the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) will exercise zero tolerance for any form of crime on the island during this season.
“Investigators will be on duty to investigate all crimes that are reported to the CID,” he said. “Also let me encourage you, the citizens, to activate your own community watch program.”
Theophile continued, “Remember, the police alone cannot fight crime and I am there to advise you on some law enforcement measures that can be adopted to guide you in assisting the police to prevent crime and violence.”
He said one must know that crimes are carefully planned and executed by criminals.
Furthermore, Theophile said as head of the CID, along with his very experienced team, they have been mandated to ensure that a robust crime prevention strategy is implemented to enhance the safety and security of the residents and visitors to Dominica for this Christmas season.
“The CID will engage in patrol in the City of Roseau and environs,” he noted. “For this Christmas season, there will be a greater increase of plainclothes officers on patrols in the city and environs.”
Therefore, Theophile said it is advisable to strictly adhere to the tips that will be provided as far as what is practicable.
Meanwhile, Theophile provided the public with a few crime prevention tips.
“Please ensure that all doors and windows are locked, especially when you are leaving your homes,” he advised.
He continued, “Alert your neighbours to keep an eye on your home in your absence. Give the impression that your home is occupied by putting on the radio or television.”
Theophile added, “Keep close attention to your purses, wallets, jewelry, and other belongings whenever you are in public.”
Theophile wishes the citizenry a crime-free Christmas season.
