$1.2-million for Delices road rehabiliation

Parliamentary Representative for the La Plaine constituency, Peter St Jean,

Main sections of the Delices road are being rehabilitated to the tune of EC$1.2 million, according to a release from the Government Information Service.

It says the Public Works Corporation recently began work on the project which extends from the junction of Boetica to Laroche.

Parliamentary Representative for the La Plaine constituency, Peter St Jean, accompanied by a GIS news team,  paid an official visit to the project site on Thursday July 12, 2012.

They were told by Senior Project supervisor attached to the Public Works Department Clayton Jno –Baptiste, that the job will include drainage and resurfacing works.

“We are looking at the rehabilitation of 1.2 Kilometres of roadway with some 1270 square metres of 50 millimetre thick asphalt concrete surface, 2.3 kilometres of shoulder blading and 910 square metres of slipper drains”.

Jno-Baptiste confirmed that a significant amount of the work has already been done including excavation.

MP St Jean has welcomed the progress made so far on that project.

“For a while now the road has been in a terrible condition. That was complicated last November during the heavy rains that actually cut through certain areas of that road,” he explained.

“I have waited over a period of time. The people have been very patient and finally work has commenced. There is tremendous relief among the people and for me it is a big burden that is off my back,” St Jean, the country’s education minister, said.

“Bus drivers, the pedestrians the general populace in the area have been experiencing tremendous difficulty to the extent that in some cases people have had to disembark the buses, then traverse the bad sections and then the passengers get back onto the buses. It means therefore that now work has commenced the people are feeling a sense of relief”, the La Plaine MP said.

a stitch in time saves nine. too many time we allow things to deteriorate so badly and then we have to find all that money for projects. if we block the pot holes as they appear then we would not be in that position today.

Honesty please. U were not patient and waitin. Only now u seeing de burden in ur constituency? Ever since the Delegates conference at St. Joseph all u Parl. Reps. Busy boy.

Roadworks should start from Dubique thru Petite Savanne to Pond Case. Tarish concrete is not the way to go. I insist on a proper road bed to limit future road failures
    .

Oh, Mr Public works minister what are ur plans for Mahaut. I notice that the E.O. LeBlanc highway has been handed over and still the Chinese are constructing curbs from Roseau to Portsmouth. I am awaiting de announcement that my government is serving a penalty to Jacques Gardahkan for his failure to complete Lot 2 on time. The figure for the penalty should be as mentioned previously by Mr Blackmoore, $300 000.

De country needs these monies. If it were a local contractor he would be jailed already.

  15. ROSEAU VALLEY
    July 13, 2012

Some of the comments below suggest that Mr. St Jean is not a popular MP and the theatrical spectacle that resulted in the Gretel Thom judicial slap in the constitutional face of Dominicans may be taking its toll on the popularity of the MP. After all, the man lied openly to his teeth and refused to tell the court the truth- instead he relied on a ridiculous and coward defense of “self-incrimination” as a disgraceful and dishonourable Pastor and Minister of Government. But I do not mean to be too harsh on the illegal MP. I shall limit my comments to the positive aspects of the story.

    1. At least government has set aside some funds for rehabilitation of a portion of the road in the village. Indeed, one would have wished that the entire road could be repaired but we must be appreciative that something is being done for the folks in Boetica, La roche, Victoria and Delices. I tell you, the people of Laudat in the ROSEAU VALLEY would be happy if our MP- Mc Intrye would do something on the village road in time for the village feast. After all, Mr. St Jean has recognized that the road has been in a state of disrepair for some time and that concerns him- unlike the Parl. Rep of the ROSEAU VALLEY, who seems to be more concerned with the redistribution of government funds to ensure his re-election.

    2. The rehabilitation work is being conducted not by Chinese but by the Public Works Corporation., which means the work will be done by Dominicans. Jobs for our people.

    3. The rehabilitation work is not limited to resurfacing but it will include drainage work also.

So whether or not this is just a pre-election gimmick before the people re-elect Ron Green and throw out this “self-incriminating” Pastor, the people should welcome it without being fooled when elections comes around.

I say this because we know that the main road to Morne prosper will be completed with great pomp and huge celebrations with red flags and rum as a demonstration of how good Mc. Intyre has been to the people of Morne Prosper JUST BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTIONS after years of nothing and prolonged frustration. Hopefully, the people will be starved of honest, clean, corruption and BoBol free representation and they will demonstrate their patience when they react in a timely and appropriate manner in response to the songs of praise from Collins Mc Intye.

ROSEAU VALLEY this one is for you specifically.
Based on an earlier discussion with you it seems you are more intelligent than you write. I would want to believe you have some type of legal exposure.

However, your pure political biasness and hatred for Hon Skerrit is effecting some blindness on you and cannot see the lies of the Opposition party.

Take for example the dual citizen case which you claim to be theatrical antics of Judge Thom.

Please consider this. If you are an American citizen with an American Passport do you believe you would be eligible to receive a visitors VISA to visit the USA.

Simillarly if Mr Skerrit and Mr. St jean had French pass port how comes they both had to obtain SHENGEN VISAS. Mr Skerrit applied for and obtained a SHENGEN VISA IN 2008. Do you believe that the French would give its own citizens with French passports visitors visa. I dont think that Dominica would do that. Just consider that.

    July 13, 2012

While I’m glad the people of Delices and Boetica will breathe a sigh of relief from these pathetic roads, but this whole thing is all about shifting into election mode and candidate marketing. St Jean should let Mr. Clayton Jno-Baptiste address the media because this is public works related project. As education minister, he should focus on our deteriorating Schools driven by a lack of innovative programs and educational tools for teachers to improve the quality of education for our kids.

That’s good news for the residents of these two villages, however, I would like to ask Mr.St. Jean, how does one get to Boetica or Delices? Isn’t it via the Petite Savanne or Pond Case route? Don’t you think that these areas need attention too?….You drive on the road every day to go to work and I’m pretty sure that you have seen the way half of the road past Morne Frayal has caved in. Come on, you can do much better than that! Don’t talk about the area between Rosalie Bay and Pond Case that was washed away after all the rains last year…yes, last year. I guess with “GOAT FESTIVAL” coming to La Plaine on August 4, we will see a few pot holes being patched…helter skelter with tarish… Is that what we deserve?

      July 13, 2012

Of course these areas are in need of repairs/upgrade. I am sure that if the sections you speak of were being done, you would be asking what about another section.
