BOOK REVIEW: Let’s make the Dominican Dream a reality

Author of 'Let's make the Dominican Dream a reality' Aurelius Gordon

The aim of this book is to create a framework within which the free exchange of ideas, perspectives and a national dialogue on the conceptualization and implementation of public policy for nation building can take place within the classrooms, media houses, homes, parliament and the wider Dominican society, at home and abroad.

It is also hoped that all those with the very best interest of the People of The Commonwealth of Dominica, at home and abroad ,at heart will find some use for this book. The ideas put forward here are meant to articulate the recommendations of a concerned son of the soil, yours truly, who has heard enough empty political rhetoric and vicious, petty party political tribalism from all sides which has done nothing to advance nation building.

The socio-economic development of our beloved nation and quality of life of our people lags behind all our OECS Neighbours; in many more ways than we could ever explain, after thirty three years of so called political independence, there is still no well formulated  national home grown plan for socio-economic  development, peace and prosperity for all Dominicans at home and abroad.

As a directly result, Dominica will soon be the only OECS and Caribbean nation without an international airport which is one of the most basic of facilities for  any serious socio-economic development programme. Every single Dominican who has ever traveled or viewed television should understand this fact very clearly. This is why St. Vincent has started  building its international airport  Thus, it is hoped that the suggestions made here will not serve as fuel for  party political tribalism but rather as the basis for a  national blueprint for sustainable economic, social, cultural, and political reform and development.

Given that ALL flights into or out of Dominica are international, I don’t know what he means by saying that we don’t have an international airport. Does he mean something about the size of planes it can handle?

How can you say congratulations without reading the book? What if it is a piece of trash like his last book?
