Bridge in Roseau to be completed in two months

The bridge under construction

Project Manager for China Railway 17 Bureau (CR17) on the West Coast Road Project, Jing Hao, believes that the bridge being constructed close to the Roseau Market should be completed in the next two months.

Hao said that the bridge, which is expected to be 70 meters long and feature safety markings, guard-rails and sidewalks, is almost 80 percent complete at present.

“The next phase of the project will include construction of the ramp. During the construction of the bridge, we have had a lot of challenges, now at this point we are very please to see such a high level of construction. In approximately two months the bridge will be completed,” Hao said.

He also indicated some other features of the bridge that the public can expect to see upon completion.

“We are going to be putting in four solar-panel light posts and we are going to be having four lion heads on either side of the bridge symbolizing that the Chinese people built the bridge,” he concluded.

The bridge has no official name as yet but is being dubbed by some as the “Hanover Street to Ellioit Avenue Bridge.”

Listen……dont put Lion Of Judah in that!!!!!!!
The Free-Masons have their symbols everywhere they work and erect structures and monuments to show their power and might..
The Statue Of Liberty is one of such gifts from ‘their friends from France’….
The Chinese will erect a structure of their Sacred Dragon anywhere they want….including the soon to be ‘President’s State palace…..YOU WILL NEVER FIND A SISSEROU PARROT THERE……ONLY WE THE PEOPLE CAN PREVENT THAT FROM HAPPENING!!!!!

Why Not name the bridge the Roseau Market Bridge?

  10. Tony
    August 28, 2011

The first issue is the naming of the bridge. This bridge should be named for a Dominican who contributed in some significant way to the advancement of Dominica and we should not used any political affiliation. There should not be any lion head but rather a plaque recognizing the Chinese Government for their contribution. I was in Dominica in October of 2010 and I was a little suprised by the height of the bridge by the market. This bridge is either going to have a steep entrance ramp of a long entrance. I hope changes were made to the address such concerns. We must also recognized that China is fast becoming the next economic super power of the world therefore we must couct business with China. I only hope that China will purchased all the excess food that we produced in Dominica. ( Love Dominica from New York).

Let build a bridge in the market, then we will decide what to do with the market later.

WOW, them people that lead DA, their brains in their buttom. Where are you going to put the vendors that use the road, this is going to be major traffic going through the market. No body know how to plan and to risk assessment and analysis in this place.
oh I doh leave there so what I am worrying about. who know they might build an airport in roseau too.

China Town for your capital city?, ridiculous! We know the Chineese are helping build some infrastructure, but there are more Domincan nationals living abroad in the US, Canada & UK to name some that provide more help to their folks at home than any Chineese, Cubans or Venezuelans. Keep the name Dominican.

And to add to that it is high time that Bay Street and the other main street are identified as one to get into the town of Portsmouth and one to get out. Maybe then a new bridge will be requited. The town gets to congested! Portsmouth is developing slowly but surely.

I second that suggestion for the name, New Market Bridge (best name suggested).

I don’t see what the fuss is all about. Whether there are four lion heads or one head of the Prime Minister, the fact remains that the bridge is ours to be used. It is not in China or elsewhere, it is right there for our own use and advantage. Let’s be modest about this, four lion heads or no heads at all, it’s our, let’s make the best of it and appreciate some of the things we cried so much for before its construction.

  39. me
    August 26, 2011

Very poor creativity. Why could we not have something of our nature island be put into the two ends of the bridge like a waterfall landscape artifax, rather than some foreign permanent fixture of chinese descent. Where are our local architects, whose heritage is Dominican. I think this is clearly a sign of weak cheap negitiations. Think about it, the chinese building a bridge and we will be paying them for their B S. Guess who will be laughing all the way to the bank on our children?

        August 26, 2011

Politbureau you are so right. Not only does the plaque on the bayfront say “THE BRITISH WERE HERE”, it says “THE BRITISH WERE HERE, THANK GOD”. And if you go to the French financed Cruise Ship pier further on, there are also two plaques in French and English that say: “THE FRENCH WERE HERE THANK GOD”.Dame Eugenia Charles herself demanded that wording.

I think that a few lions are not bad. They will brighten up the place and we can turn it around and say that they are The Conquering Lions of Judah….Hail Selassie I.!!!
