Minister of Information, Science, Telecommunications and Technology, Kelver Darroux has revealed that the cabinet of Dominica has approved $1 million earmarked for the Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT) in this financial year.

He made the announcement while addressing the 12th DYBT graduation ceremony held at the Arawak House of Culture on Wednesday.

The ceremony is the flagship event of the DYBT which forms part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), observed from November 14th to November 18th 2016.

“Over the years we have continued to make funds available to DYBT and I can tell you this afternoon that the cabinet of Dominica has approved in this financial year an amount of $1 million air marked for the Dominica Youth Business Trust for you the people of Dominica,” Darroux said. “This is a major investment in the youth because we understand- and don’t let anybody fool you, yes you will go through the mentorship programme, yes you will do the social skills aspect and so forth.”

Darroux went on to say that at the end of the day a lot of money is needed.

“You need money to start off your businesses, you need money to give you a kick start and you need money to at least set that platform for you. So that is why we made these monies available to you the young people,” he stated.

The Most Determined /Successfully Female Entrepreneur Award for 2016 went to Sherma Gregoire.

Good initiative, but when these young people start their respective businesses where is the activity to sustain them? This country has so much unemployment. Persons just don’t have spending power

    Quote from first paragraph –
“has approved $1 million air marked for the Dominica Youth Business Trust ”

The correct English is “earmarked”, not “air marked”.

Youth of today, make sure you get an education, NOT an edumacation, and that your parents “earmark” some money for your University – because if they were to “air mark” it, the entire amount may disappear every time they want to take a trip on vacation.
