China to hand over Antigua power plant

Antigua will open a new 30-megawatt power plant in Crabbes this Thursday supplied by the Chinese government.

“Antigua, God’s willing, should have no more problems with electricity,” said non-resident ambassador to China David Shoul. “When the Chinese generator comes online, the capacity of the power generation in Antigua will be sufficient to meet our needs regardless of the size of future developments.”

The plant is now owned by Antigua’s APUA company.

The official handing-over ceremony will take place Thursday afternoon.

Dominicans don’t know whats happening in Antigua, I suggest you keep out. The Government of China respects all nations including Dominica. The difference between Antigua and Dominica is that Antiguans respect the Chinese and welcome their investment while Dominicans sit and criticise the chinese. Wake up Dominicans, what they build in your country cannot be uprooted, it belongs to you, educate yourselves about country diplomacy, its not for your goverment alone, it involves you all. be positive and you’ll reap the rewards. I’m sick and tired of you negativity for investors , when you criticize you are driving them away. They might build an international airport or the next geothermal plant.

The Government of Dominica does not understand China and we will continue to see and influx of Chinese government supported small business and not solid investment such as this one in ANU and Bahamas container port.

Why are we asking the most capitalistic country on the planet for social projects?

The difference between Antiguan’s and Dominican’s is, China and Chavez respect the people and Government of Antigua and therefore they keep their promises to them while they continue to disrespect us and treat our government as their footcloth. When they make promises to us, is either they give us something less than what was promised like the three lane highway from Possie to Roseau or The ‘Coffee Plant’ of which the MOU was signed on May 28, 2010 and on Jan. 5 2011, our Minister of Agriculture told us that we would see the full impementation of it in 2011, though to be fair to the minister, he did advise us to “Keep our fingers cross,” you remember that? We are now in september and I am not hearing anything about it; will we still see the full implementation of it this year so that our people that left college this year could find work in agriculture, according to the minister

People take note, China is spreading its wings within the Caribbean. Barbados signing agreement, now antigua getting electricity plant. So stop the talk you have going round that there will be 2 lion heads on the new bridge in Roseau, and persons say is only Chinese that will use it.
So who is going to benefit from that new electricity plant in Antigua, is it China?
Let us enjoy whatever we are given and as I said its for OUR USE when it is completed not the Chinese.
