Because of the constant heavy rains in the past few months, the Roseau-Portsmouth Rehabilitation Project, which is carried out by China Railway 17 Bureau Group (CR17BG), has met with some challenges.
Hence the construction process is behind schedule. In light of this situation, Chinese Ambassador to Dominica, H.E. Wang Zonglai, visited the working sites on multiple occasions, to inspect the construction process. Ambassador Wang required that CR17BG should cooperate with the Ministry of Public Works to complete the project in time both with quality and safety against all odds.
The manager of CR17 BG, Mr. Shi Jianming, said they have enacted several contingency plans according to the complex situation of the West Coast Road. And they have taken additional measures against the bad weather caused by the rainy season this year.
For example, CR17BG constructed earth-retaining walls in several sections to prevent landslide. They also took some slope protection measures in some sections which are prone to floods. As DWASCO is simultaneously laying pipes along the West Coast Road, CR17BG is coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works actively in an attempt to avert any interference of with either of the two important people-benefit projects.
The CR17BG also disclosed that, in the last phase of the West Coast Road Project, they will construct one or two additional bus stops near Roseau. If possible, they also plan to construct a square next to the bus stop, to provide the local people with another place of recreation and entertainment.
If ever there were a case for a village requiring a road bypass, Mahaut is it. The narrow passage between the buildigs is not getting any wider, but the number and size of vehicles squeezing through daily continues to increase. Yet I see no preparation for a bypass! Why doesn’t CR17BG reclaim some shoreline and build a proper sea defense road like they did at Taro, beyond the buildings, then the residents of Mahaut can enjoy their village once again without constant gridlock?
i visit dominica last month and the chine doing a good job, planing to send down my ride now the road sweet.
where is the minister of communication and works?
Where is the pictorial evidence? One measly photo with some people standing on a mound of dirt? I would have expected to see construction work-in-progress and not just a photo up.
You stupid! It’s almost finished!
I suggest you take a drive and go see for yourself. Why does everything have to be so negative?
this road is the most important highway for us. I hope the CR17BG can finish this tough work in time. God bless Dominica.
natural disaster is always a terrible monster for the nature island.
Same old piece of road, where is the drainage man, what? they just put tar over the old piece of road, all along I looking for new road
You have studied the book of lamentations very well. Just keep complaining and complaining and never stop.
It was because of the complaints of the people of Dominica that the Chinese company started to hire locals on the project. Public pressure can bring about desirable change. So, people continue to put pressure on the Govt and the Chinese to advance our interests. No apology for this!
The chinese give us the roads, now it’s up to our government to do drainage, I would think.
The Chinese are working strictly in accordance with the contract. It was approved by the Ministry of Pulic Works!
Another piece of negative comment. The Chinese left the drainage for you to do, that way you will not complain any longer.
Indeed, beggers are choosers.
Sounds good to me. Good luck with this project!
