Digicel Dominica today proudly announced its support of the Dominica Association of Disabled People (DADP) which will see a five member delegation travel to Jamaica to attend the 2011 Regional Assembly later this month.

The Assembly – which is organised by the Disabled Peoples’ International North America and the Caribbean (DPI NAC) – is held every four years to develop a multi-year action plan that includes electing new Executives and Committee leaders as well as bringing delegates from a number of countries together to identify issues of main concern for immediate action.

“Ensuring Our Future through Youth Empowerment” is the title and focus of this year’s Assembly and will feature training in leadership, team building, advocacy, motivation and self-esteem.

Digicel has pledged its support to cover the cost of the Dominica Association of Disabled People to attend this programme in Jamaica.

Digicel Dominica’s Marketing Manager, Nathalie Walsh, said; “As part of our promise to give back to our communities, we are proud to be supporting the DADP. We wish the delegation the very best for this year’s Regional Assembly and hope that their learnings will assist disabled persons in acquiring vocational skills, thus preparing them for job opportunities and independence in the future.” She also went on to say that Digicel has supported the DADP with other events which includes the ‘Blind Cricket Tournament’.

“Today DADP is pleased that Digicel has pledged support in assisting one of our members of the DADP to attend and participate in the conference held in Jamaica. We were very pressed financially to attend the said conference and requested assistance from the Bigger, Better Network who did not hesitate in assisting. Thank you Digicel, said Nathalie Murphy, Executive Director of the DADP.
