Dominica lifts Windies

A packed Windsor Park stadium on the last day of the Test between West Indies and India. Photo credit: Mervin A. Francis

Something strange happened in Dominica last weekend.

For each of the last three days of a Test match the West Indies had absolutely no hope of winning and every chance of losing, Windsor Park, the impressive modern stadium in the capital, Roseau, increasingly filled to near its 10,000 capacity.

On the Sunday, queues formed outside from early morning, waiting to support their team’s effort to hold off the superior Indians.

By the time lunch came around there was hardly a seat to be had in the stands, all named in honour of eminent Dominica players.  On the eastern side the open grass bank was also well populated.

Great article from Trinidad and the picture of Ma Blanc and her well made Flag. Big up to Ma Blanc ( Bellvue Rawle Passe) and all those who cheered the WI Team.

My point is that together we are a force and who say that we cannot do it. We need to eliminate the negative and be mor e positive and we can do it. See what positive vibes can do – rekindle, reawake, rejuvenate and rebuild something that is falling apart.

Together we must and all are we in. Kudos my people and let us continue in this newly found trend. Let us stand together and do the best for our country no matter who we support. We have done before and we can do it again. Power of life and death is in the tongue. We used our tongue these last few days to revive our WI team who was in the doldrums sometimes due to the same tongue partly trying to kill them.

Great Lesson isn’t this? Let us put this in practice in our Nation from this day onward!

Folks, this article brings great joy to me. BIG UP Dominican’s – you have shown the WICB who really is behind Windies cricket – let’s hope they see that light.

Tony’s article missed one thing though; when juxtaposed against the other islands where test cricket is played, the significance of the 10,000 crowd is even greater. Think about it; Dominica has a population of what, 70,000? When 10,000 of that turn out at the National Stadium in support, folks that’s roughly 15% of the country’s population. That’s incredible!

This article is a blessing because it shows that Dominica ppl not only love their cricket, but they represent and turn out in numbers- that would be a valid reason from bringing cricket back to the islands.

Friends, Dominicans, Country men, next time they bring cricket to Dca, turn out again – that way it will happen over and over, and before you know it…Dominica will be all on the map.

Big up to those who supported not only the West Indies team, but DOMINICA.

    Forward we go!

This article brought shivering to my flesh! DNO great continuity of reporting. Other Caribbean islands are lauding the Dominican people for such a huge display of Caribbean pride and support.
Congratulations to all You Made Dominica and all Dominicans, as well as the Caribbean proud…

Great article from Cozier!!! Although I don’t usually side with everything this man says, he was certainly right on the ball this time.

    CONGRATS TO THE DOMINICAN MASSIVE!!!!

If WICB has half a brain, Dominica will be among the premier venues to host future games. St6. Lucia, St. Kitts, Grenada and St. Vincent should see games once every 10 years for their lack of support.

“This time, the belief of the Dominicans (and there were men, women, boys, girls, children, toute bagai) was transferred, seemingly by osmosis, from the stands to the middle. Every run was cheered, every landmark loudly celebrated.”
My favorite part of the article.
Great job Dominica, and I hope West Indies cricket once again rises to the position it once held.
    An excellently written article.

Stupendous article by Tony Cozier. Clearly sets the path for future games in the Nature Isle.

Great piece!! I again felt great pride in Dominica’s performance at that test match. Windies – tell WICB that you want to play in Dominica for every series. We behind you one hundred percent.
