Dominica has given Nevis assurances that Roseau does not intend competing with it in the area of geothermal energy.
That assurance came from Minister of Public Works, Energy and Ports Rayburn Blackmoore during a recent visit to Nevis.
Expressing gratitude to the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) for the opportunity to share in its geothermal development experiences, the minister told the Department of Information there that he held the view that both islands should dialogue with each other given the fact that they were both pursuing the development of geothermal energy.
The Dominican Minister during last weekend’s visit held talks with the Minister for Natural Resources and the Environment in Nevis, Carlisle Powell.
“I want to say to Minister Powell we are happy that Dominica is not going to compete with you and that is why we can have this open dialogue, this open and transparent relationship moving forward.
“We can share our experiences to ensure therefore, that geothermal in itself is developed to its fullest potential for the benefit of our citizens and for civilization of the Caribbean on a whole,” Minister Blackmoore said.
“Because energy impacts on every sector in society we believe that we have to afford the people of Dominica a cleaner and more reliable energy source and we believe that geothermal is the way to go,” he said.
Blackmoore noted that other delegations from his Ministry had already visited Nevis but believed that his island was at the point where the time had come for the development of policies and to give the necessary direction to the geothermal sector and Nevis could help.
MR BLACKMOORE ALLOW ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLIMENT YOU ON THE GREAT JOB YOU HAVE BEEN DOING. YOU ARE A TRUE STATES MAN.
Blackmore, you better compete so that you can get some money to fix all the potholes that you have us swimming in from Grandbay Secondary School all the way to Delices. Seems we have to wait forever to get those potholes fixed!
wow? huh? DA people poor and hungry and blackmoore and dem jus givin away opportunities for money? Well blackmoore whilst you there DA won’t don’t geothermal but every dog have their day and someone else must replace the head idiot of the labor party and then DA will use every means of gaining money to its best ability.
on a side note what the hell is wrong with your hair? What is that suppose to be a mohawk? You does really go and speak to other leaders of countries with your hair cut like that? uggghhh
man have right to put what they want to put on them shut up that’s not the issue at hand allu to like stray way from point its the modern days u want d man to cut his hair like ur greatest grandpa d man hair belle get away man
Blackmoor, perhaps you need to just shut up, in what way can you and Dominica compete in the geothermal business. You are so ignorant you are talking as if there is a market where you are going to enter into and sell something in that market.
You are so full of it!
Nevis is green in the business, if I was a Dominica official, and I needed advise concerning Geothermal Energy, I would not look for advised from someone who because they are in the business, and lack sound experience in the operation of the business.
I would have looked to people in Italy, where geothermal technology was developed, way back in 1904 when engineers in Larderello tapped the supply of geothermal energy by drilling special wells into the underground steam supply, for help if I needed it.
I would look to the United States, for information, I would visit the Geysers field near San Francisco where the technology has been long established.
I would perhaps turn to the professionals who operate the Wairakei plant in New Zealand, there are other places I could mention, but I’ll only say this of the three I mentioned, I don’t know that they are in competition with anyone in a market to sell geothermal energy.
I know that is the hype in Dominica, and that is the crap that people such as you Blackmoor fantasized; trust me you will not sell one ounce of geothermal energy to Guadeloupe, or Martinique as some of you dream about.
I know plenty about the technology, that is why I am telling you here and now; all that you are babbling about is nothing more than a fool’s wishful thinking.

It’s interesting how all the comments related to this article seem to miss the mark. From an engineering standpoint, the headline of this article is misleading. The Minister made a few valid points however; it must be known that there is strictly no basis for competition when it comes to the production geothermal energy.
Geothermal energy production is a complex engineering process. Countries who invest in geothermal energy are always sharing information on how highest energy output can be achieved. Besides, Dominica’s geological make-up puts it at an advantage. The Minister’s main priority as this stage should be to secure the best minds and talents to research and build the required infrastructure.
A note to the editor:
This article leaves little to the imagination. As a suggestion, it would be wise to include a science column in your publication; we have to find a positive ways to influence young minds. It’s very sad that crime & tragedy take center stage in your publication.
Give it some thought!
Thank you.
Mr. B dont worry with them people, beofre you came in, Dominica had bad roads and poor infrastructure.
Thanks for everything and keep your head high.
these are the people out there negociating on our behalf folks.
stupes. tell me about it. Nevis fitting in dominica over 10 times and they afraid of competing. this is the next level
wait a while, blackmoore allu doh get off de ground yet and start to show people light allu talking about competition already..
In my humble opinion, The Minister is just being Diplomatic.
When this venture works, we have to ensure we are the best in It and hence, being competative will take its natural course.
Ok, so if someone is helping you get on your feet or get ahead with information and or assistance would you turn around and screw them after the fact? Would any of you help and or train the person behind you to take your job? In anyway, we have a larger potential market than Nevis based on our location. We shouldn’t have to compete to be successful.
Why the ministers makes promises they can’t keep. They tend to make promises that sounds good to their ego and to ear.
MR. B how come the people at PWC sicking out AGGGGAINNN????????? those days I out of the loop…..but i does still get my little sipsion
eh beh if is so he said it… the NEVIS government were maybe laughing their hats off!! i cant get over the general wording of this article……….
you can really see how incompetent most of the MINISTERS are in their field or area of work…………..this is so sad! Dominica needs a turn around! i wonder when that will happen….???? thinking*** lolz…this is funny n sad
poor poor English….Our ministers need to work on learning to write GREAT speech’s to deliver!!!
What is so bad with his English. His words are within the quotation marks. Go through it it and point out the “bad” English.
The man wasn’t giving a speech. He was merely making some remarks.
shooting youself in the foot before the race has started eh?
How would Dominica compete with them anyway. This is an island that is almost completely dependent on diesel for power generation with no infrastructure to export power. This is almost like me telling Brad Pitt not to worry I will not make a pass by Angelina Jolie (like Angelina would even look at me twice).
WHY SHOULD WE NOT COMPETE!!!!!!!!
WHY SHOULD WE SETTLE FOR BEING AVERAGE!!!
No wonder we are just DRAGGING along since independence! There seem to be no sense of emergency with our country’s development especially with attitudes like the minister’s.
Of couse we will not compete in a ruthless manner BUT make no mistake…..
WE NEED TO BE IN A COMPETETION MODE!!!! OK?
This is our “turf” our “…niche”! [geothermal energy= Nature Island!
Are we forgetting that?
This is how we are we bow and worship those who who shake our hands.
This is why I believe like TIBET, China will be collecting on Dominica. Tibet was 100 years but in this age it may be sooner for us.
As usual we Dominicans always being negative. Don’t get me wrong i am all for caribbean unity and all that good stuff but ,If we get to the point where the geothermal project is successful and we could market that energy for the development of or nation well we should we should not let our kindness be our weakness. i live overseas where i come in contact with many other Caribbean people and many of them (not all) look at Dominicans as their poor relations twice removed, so don’t be nice at all if we got it we should use it to our advantage. they won’t keep themselves back for us.
Let me tell you something Mr. Blackmoore…I find you too quick to give “assurances” If it was the other way around you think they would extend the same courtesy to us??? THINK AGAIN! Competition is Healthy.
this guy talks while saying “NOTHING”
basically shooting himself in the foot before the race starts.
nevis had more tourists visit their island last year than dominica(i guess they are not competeing against us in that area…haha)
You are sure what you have as yet, you not sure if what you have will be usable as yet, you have not begin to use or benefit from what you have as yet, but you are on in the media talking about competition. That asphalt sickness spreading.
You are not sure what you have as yet.
by de way that is a dumb song he should go back to the drawing board, he exhausted better if he had wrote a song about all de LPO he get to RENOVATE his house….
