People on the west coast affected by the September 28 floods, will get 60 percent of the total damage they have sustained, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced.
“It is a major contribution the government is making to them. Clearly it is an act of God,” Skerrit said on Friday.
He assured that the dozens of families from Canefield, Massacre, Mahaut, St. Joseph and Layou should begin receiving cheques by next week.
“People have lost everything they owned, their televisions, their beds, their clothes,” he pointed out.
The prime minister said in excess of 60 people will be catered to and the contribution will amount to more than half a million dollars. “The treasury is processing it. I have signed the warrant as minister of finance earlier this week,” he stated.
He added: “Everybody will get 60 percent of the total loss they incurred as a result of the disaster on the west coast.”
some of u people must think before al u comment. u people a heartless useless. its better the needy gets help than to waste money on electoral reform. no one can vote twice so dont let eddo and them fool u guys. for once use ur head and think for your selves. skerrit helped from the first day he set foot in office and will continue helping. keep on the good works pm. my vote will always b for u till d end
I say big thank you Christmas gift. But the farmers from layout valley and the fishermen you promise and nothing as yet so that’s another one in the basket .
lets put politics aside just this once….
the people needed every cent they could get…..
good job pm
Great initiative on behalf of the gov’t.
That is indeed a kind gesture …. people really are who matter. Surely, this will help those families get back to some semblance of normality. I am indeed happy to read this.
What hell electoral reform..workers gave me building materials just before the 2000 elections…what was that?people need assistance give it to them..excellent gesture mr.PM
Great move! Thank you. Further proof of a caring government.
So, monies can be found for these people. But money cannot be found for electoral reform. I have no problem with government assisting people affected by natural disasters. But it must not be motivated by vote catching. And if the PM can find monies for Village Councils to distribute, individuals, etc, he should be able to find monies for cleaning the electoral list, which is an important issue since it touches on the type of governance we get.
Conscious is right..never mind the thumbs down….i don’t mind the people getting help but electoral reform!!
Conscious, you are jus another pig in the mud making senseless comments when people are in need of help. you so called “dominican” ohh am sorry ” dum a** in a can” need to realise that help should be given to those people who need the help due to the disaster. stop de negative thinking and be really conscious
