Five more houses in the city of Roseau are now much more colourful, after being subjected to a serious paint job under an initiative described as the Roseau Paint-a-thon.
Volunteer teams and qualified painters were involved in the June 2-3 exercise aimed at brightening up the city.
It’s the second year running that that Discover Dominica Authority exercise has targeted specific houses for a proper paint job, with these houses given a makeover at no cost to their owners.
The initiative, supported by the National Bank of Dominica, Josephine Gabriel and Company, and Harris Paints Dominica, aims at beautifying buildings in the capital with historic and architectural appeal.
The painting exercise formed part of the island’s annual Tourism Awareness Month activities.
The painted houses are located on Cork Street and Hillsborough Street.

GREAT JOBIT WILL LOOK LIKE A NEW TOWN
the entire town needs to be painted..great initiative
This is Awesome. Great work!
Well…ehhhhhmmm!!!!!!.yes good initiative! However, I would prefer to see some modern 3-4-5 storey buildings replacing some of these little dilapidated shacks in Roseau. Yes, the bright colours are great, yes they have their place in preserving our heritage, history and architecture etc., etc, etc, but the city needs a renaissance. However, in light of the fact that the land space of the city cannot be increased, we need to use our limited resources more wisely and this necessitates the use of our airspace to build. I am sure Jays would agree. So in the short term, fine let’s paint these houses and inject a sense of optimism in the society during these hard economic times. In the medium to long term, however, we need to rebuild the congested city and modernize it with new buildings.
In that regard, I must say the addition of the new bridges across the Roseau River, the construction of the back roads, access to goodwill, the parking facility across the rive, the stadium etc, etc all have contributed tremendously to the improved image and face of the city. Inasmuch, as we admit that the national priority is misplaced in building the $27 million plus state palace, it too will add to the modernization of the city when completed.
I am sorry-Peeping Tom and others- I could not continue the kumbaya chorus of praise to the initiative. May our varying ideas for development of our city contend to the benefit of all.
i live in Roseau. I want my house paint red, please
LOL…Nice Joke
great job. some are trying. but unless they fix that old rugged streets and sidewalks of roseau. awa. these roads in town like any old feeder roads. u cannot push a stroller in town or wear any shoes in roseau nuh. chupess. mayor. where d sidewalk project u start n never finish. komesssss
Some how I do not feel the love. Some of these buildings need rehabilitation before they are painted. Some should be moved to create space for proper side walks.
IF WE DONT DO IT WHO WILL? GREAT JOB MY PEOPLE.
Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic!
how cute, I would love a house like those painted. Mackie James wanting to know who he can phone to offer help in this project
The initiative is done by Discover Dominica Authority so they would be who should be contacted.
Great initiative! Absolutely love the idea : Hopefully, our people will pay it forward with other random acts of kindness.
Lovely project. Being a Paint Decorator, i strongly would like the painters to protect them self with mask and eyes prtections cause most of the old houses were painted with oil paint many years ago, and it was contaminated with lead and its a danger to your health and your suroundings, so cover up !!!!
thanks for your helpful tip
Very sweet love it
Great Discover Dominica initiative!!! How about Government Building next…it could certainly do with a colour lift
Fabulous job! Great initiative! I love a colourful ambience and I think making the city so flamboyant will certainly uplift the spirit of its residents, visitors and commuters!!
The Roseau City Council should continue to support this impressive initiative and this should also be embraced by the residents.
Congratulations to the volunteers, residents, Discover Dominica Authority, supporters, and all other stakeholders for a job well done!
GREAT JOB!! THERE ARE MUCH MORE THAT NEED TO PAINT AND MANY THAT NEED TO BE DEMOLISHED!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
This initiative is just so positive! Loving it.
great job i do hope that the next step is to ensure that the owners of the dilapidated buildings do something about them, the Roseau council need to keep information session information sessions for the residence of Roseau to keep the drains and sidewalk in front of their building clean,it is high time that they keep the city clean also get rid of the beggars/panhandlers on the streets
And the DOGS that st all over the place making you play hopscotch when you walking in town.
These positive ideas should be more recognised and i am commending the people who have put it together………..Great work..all these things contribute to nation building
that is so cute. keep doing good for Dominica.
