Staff and clients of PDV Caribe Dominica Limited are participating in month-long activities aimed at enhancing health and safety standards in Dominica.

The company, which has 35 corporate clients it sells diesel to, is also involved in the distribution of LPG cooking gas.

PDV Caribe is conducting a series of training and educational seminars promoting safety practices.

They include defensive driving, hazardous material, general wellness, work-related stress management, environmental protection and disaster training, and fire management and prevention training.

“A lot of companies look at Petro Caribe and they look at as the landmark for safety,” the company’s HR leader Denise Charles told a press conference, explaining why the emphasis on a month of activities aimed at “building a safety culture”.

Both Charles and colleague Kendal Austrie – Health Safety and Security Officer, say the activities being held are intended to send a clear message contained in the theme for the month “your safety is our safety”.

“At the end of the month we  hope that we would have retrained our employees, re-emphasized the importance of safety to them,” Charles told reporters at a news conference.

She said the hope was also that the message would be passed on to PDV Caribe Dominica clients to make them better equipped to focus more on the safety aspect of their operations.

Thanks for conducting a month of safety awareness. One cannot over emphase the need for safety on our streets, industries(manufacturing),tourism and even our homes.
I a Dominican residing in the U.S.V.I.I work at the soon to be closed Hovensa oil refinery on St.Croix where safety is the rule.Water safety (testing and treating),material storage and handling, chemicals( used motor oil, gasoline, diesel, farm chemicals, household chemicals etc are some of the things which require a lot of attention and awareness on the part of our people.Keep up the good work. Let’s keep preaching safety to our people. It’s never too much.
