Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has assured 119 graduates of a apprenticeship program that they will be gainfully employed, in one way or the other, in the service industry.

The Prime Minister was delivering an address at a ceremony during which saw 119 Dominicans graduate from at a Hospitality, Culinary Arts, and Manicure/Pedicure Apprenticeship Training Module at the Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth on Thursday.

“I can give you the assurances that all of you who have completed this programme you would be engage one way or the other, one way or the other you would be engaged,” he said.

He mentioned that he had been told that about 85 percent of the graduates are already employed.

Skerrit said that he is very proud of the graduates for having completed the training. “You stuck through the programme and you have been benefiting from the results of your perseverance,” he said.

He encouraged the newly trained individuals to not let the training be an end to their development.

He called on them to be diligent in the workforce to ensure longevity of employment.

“You are going out in the service industry where you have to be providing service to the guests of your establishment. Respect for time, respect for self and respect for people are going to be paramount,” Skerrit said.

The participants of the module were trained in bar-tending, housekeeping, front desk operations, wait staffing, manicure and pedicure, culinary arts and customer service.

Promises, promises, must be election time again. Just like what all politicians do even in other countries. Promises the moon, stars and riches to bamboozle the masses into voting for you. Sad part is the masses are easily bamboozled and fall for the hocus pocus B/S.

    February 22, 2014

Guys, listen to me and “keep your eyes on me” because this Comedian show is getting better with all these hotel rooms story. I told you the fight that is on between Skerro and his spiritual advisor for tenants. Here is more show, this time it’s between the true owner of those villas and his legal advisor for hotel room.
You remember the Bobbles case when he tried to tell us he was the owner of those villas right? You remember who was always in court with Bobbles and who signed documents for high court case? In case you forgot, it was Skero’s spiritual advisor who was bobbles pastor. Well since the fall of the pastor, he and bobbles fell as well. The spiritual advisor started his own church. But guess where his church meets? In a hotel room recently built by Skerro’s legal advisor, just 1 mile south of Ross University. But guess what? Another hotel was recently built in the cabrits area in the name of ‘The Government of Dominica’, which has a conference room that can seat 200 persons. Well, guess what? Since the hotel is close to Skerro’s spiritual advisors mansion and in a populated area, pastor spiritual advisor wants to move in and leave legal advisor’s hotel. That is not going well with the SC because as you know the hotel is not attracting much business because of poor visitor stay over. So guess what? Legal advisor and owner of hotel now fighting for tenants too! Common Regie, help those guys because it is in your constituency

Don’t forget who you are dealing with.

Roosevelt Skerrit words mean nothing, trust me on that one. You just can’t take this bag of talk to the bank because the bankers will run you out of the bank and will throw stones after you.

    These promises mean NOTHING!

Your PM is really trying his utmost and to please fellow Dominicans. Look at the good that he is doing and reaching out to the people especially the youths. They are not merely words but action. Please give him all the support that you can. Always look for the good. You will be judged by this, the good that you have done.

In which country do you live?
Or are you deliberately ignoring the problems our youths are facing today?
This is just a big “Pappy Show” by Skerritt.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to the Graduates; as this is a good step in the right direction. To all the tutors, you must be proud of your students. To the Prime Minister and the Government, well done; continue to invest in our young people and continue to see the good and positives in them.

Too bad the UWP didn’t meet these ambitious young people in their 21 in 25, to broadcast to the world how our youths are ambitious and have a sense of pride in themselves and their future.

But of course, why would they? That is not what they stand for or how they want the world to view us.

blue and red truly aint just a color anymore smh

      February 22, 2014

That man looks handsome in any color he chooses to wear.

You can see he is a PM for all the people!! I see a woman in a red top in the photo, did you see her also? And the gentleman accepting the award has a purple shirt, making it a colorful picture. The young man is beaming and looks very happy; please to meet the PM and please with his own accomplishment. Going back to view the photo, the PM has an aqua shirt and wears that color handsomely.

We must admire the PM. Granted the UWP supporters seem not to support him on the blog and talk radio; but they surely admire him and want to be like him. That’s cool. Keep trying to be like him.

That is why most UWP supporters will vote DLP in the next General Election. And who can blame them? They too have to think of their future and their children future. We all know Dominica’s future is with this PM and the DLP.

“I can give you the assurances that all of you who have completed this program you would be engage one way or the other, one way or the other you would be engaged,” he said. The key words people, are “engage one way or the other.”

By now we are all use to the ole saying ” promises made, promises not kept, the leader is smiling while he thinks we’re inept.

I am often critical of the PM’s policies and statements, but this looks like an excellent venture on his part, and I hope the remaining 15% of graduates will find employment.

Very good start. So long as he does not absorb these people into an already bloated civil service.
