Interacting with pre-schoolers, teenagers in care and the elderly – that’s how public servants grouped under the Public Service Day Committee say they are planning to give back to society.
The committee has organized a range of activities through its outreach programmes, activities expected to culminate in December with a Public Service Awards and Recognition ceremony.
“We plan to have activities with some of the pre-schools, the “Grange” elderly home in Portsmouth and also the” House of Hope” in Delices,” committee spokesperson Carie Baron explained.
“We believe this is an ideal way of giving back to society. We are public officers, we work every day at our desk but we can do more, so we see that as our social responsibility to give back to the vulnerable groups within our society,” she said.
They have already held a day camp for youths being catered for by Operation Youth Quake.
Most of the children there come from broken homes and struggle with self esteem problems.
The committee’s Leslie Ann Waldron and some of her colleagues spoke to the young boys and girls about the importance of building self confidence and taking charge of their future, at Friday’s day camp.
The initiative is expected to be featured on Monday’s television evening news of the Government Information Service.
