Road repairs for Marigot

Marigot residents have been given the assurance by government, that their concerns regarding a dilapidated road will be addressed soon.

The Over Gutter Road which has been described as the key link road in the village is said to be impassable to both vehicles and pedestrians.

However, Public Works Minister Rayburn Blackmoore told parliament on Thursday that emergency repairs will be conducted on the road within the next four weeks.

He said while the road requires complete rehabilitation, the funds are not yet available.

Blackmoore said associated cost is estimated at $1,636,000.

“You will agree that the described scope of work and associate coast are indicative of a substantial project undertaking. It is for this reason that government has decided to undertake a comprehensive audit, with a view to strategizing approach,” Blackmoore noted.

He said further, that while “we continue to plan … we recognize the need for routine intervention, for keeping the road in a motorable condition. Emergency repairs will commence in the next four weeks, while the most substantive work is planned for a later stage … after securing the required monetary allocation.”

The Over Gutter Road is classified as an ‘urban road’, traversing through residential areas.

It measures 1.24 kilometers, with an average width of 14.7 feet.

One of the most striking questions I see in all this is what some one mentioned “why there is no photo of the road in question that’s very interesting. The road must be really bad no one could even get close enough to take a photo of it. Maybe the need a sat satellite for us to see the road and it’s condition.  :-P

Hopefully, the road leading to Wotten Waven will be next on the list. It has been deplorable forever. Additionally, this a major tourist attraction.

I want to question the cost of this job. If it is a concrete surface we are looking at 930m3. Concrete 0.15m (6″) thick About 50% of road has concrete drains all culverts are in place . I think 1.6million look extremely high.
Whoever did the estimate please explain

Is so we come in Dominica?People have to ask Govt to fix their road? So what we paying all that vat for non? And what we paying dem fellas like Blackboore to sit in de ministry and get all those allowances (seen and under the table) for non? Dem boys believe they too high and mighty to sit on their desks and devise a proper plan to develop this country? Or is it that that task is too big for their little brains. Roads all over de country bad, feder roads, main roads, village road, and all they can give each time is excuses in some big words that some of us doh understand. You can fool some of the people sometimes, but you certainly cannot fool all the people all the time. Bravo, majour Blackmoore.

Good news for Overgutter residents but when is the Valley Road (the worst in the village)going to get the much needed attention? It has not been repaired for over 30 years:it has been in a most deplorable state LONGER that Overgutter. Are we being punished for being MARIGOT? I hope not as it would be hegemonistic.

but atleast the road is so dilapidated that the villagers could at least come together to build their road… don’t wait for government to build it for u.
that’s the problem in dominica, we think that we can sit down and wait for government to help, but election coming and they just want to stir up ppl mind for a vote

And wen Edison was in power i remember that road was in a very Decent and Motorable condition

I will say that Marigot Villagers and Marigot are one of the Villages that dont believe in hand outs they know that fixing the Roads are the resposiblity of the Government and Blackmoore knows that but they believe they can tell the folks we are going to repair the roads in M’got and that will give them more votes I know that will not work so Blackmoore comes with his bag o tricks to fool the folks, on the other hand how can he talking about repairs and still say they haven got the funds as yet that’s ridiculous.
DLP is going around the Island promising and also trying to feel out the mood of the people so they can figure out how people to bring from the diaspora election time they are running like wild cats they dont want to fall like what happen in Grenada but they will, Edo didnt do much for M’got he was to busy doing for the other parts of the Island as PM but he allow the village of M’got to be left behind well if he get’s in this time remember your own folks.
