Soufriere-Scotts Head sea wall project, road rehabilitation coming

Residents of Soufriere, Scotts Head and Gallion have been told that their long-awaited sea defense wall is coming.

The Dominica Labour Party Government today awarded the contract for the $22-million project to Co Williams and Company Limited.

The contract will also make provisions for the road rehabilitation project in that community which is set to commence in April.

Parliamentary Representative for the constituency Sam Martin says the project is a dream come true for the people there.

According to him, the new project will bring tremendous relief to the people.

“I must say that this government continues to demonstrate that level of commitment to the constituency. The people who have to travel this road every day will be relieved and bring employment for several others,” he said.

Meantime, Public Works Minister Rayburn Blackmoore told this morning’s contract-signing ceremony that while one of the objectives of the project is to protect the coastal infrastructure, government is also concerned about the lives of the people.

He said in that regard government will be seeking further funding from a financial institution to extend the wall.

“We are taking about a wall of 750 meters in length and we are negotiating to have the balance of the wall to take us to the end of the village,” he said.

One more negative. Are we aware of the duct mitigation plans? Should the road remain in its current state and collapse?

The propject is not the Soufirere Scotts head sea wall. It is the Pointe Mitchel Sea wall and the funding agency is the Caribbean Development Bank. The finacing for the project was approved by the CDB in November/dECEMBER 2008. It has taken another three years to get to the point where a contract is issued. Imagine if the CDD was to listen to Jerry and make borrowing more stringent for Dominica simply because Skerrit is Prime Minister, imagine how long it would take? Thanks God we have coem this far and we are very happy for that.

The Hon. Minister spoke about an extension of the sea wall to take it to the end of the village. That make sense for those of us who live in Pointe Mitchel. If that project however were to go back for additional funding from the CDB, the request for additional funds would be treated as a new application and the entire project (what that has already been approved and the additional request) would be put on hold pending approval for the additional funds. We could be looking for an additional two years wait. That is what Jerry & Co want for DA.

Well done Ray Blackmore , Prime Minister Skerrit and the DLP government. Finally the people of the Soufriere Constituency is getting some real development. Fifteen years of Freedom Party rule and our undivided loyalty with our votes before, during and after did precious little to quench our development thirst. PM Skerrit, Thank You. We love you and will always remember you, today and certainly come ballot day in 2014/2015. Judith, Gustave, Swanston, Bosso, Baron et al can suck their teeth if they want. The truth be told. It cannot be hidden. Truth is truth. Imagine even before frederick Baron served out one time as our representative, he went public with his desire not to continue serving us. Today he is the bastionof all that is moral and of good value and high moral ethics. He wants to stay on the outside and fix what he could have easily done on the inside. He categorically refused the opportunity to assist us when he had the opportunity. He must then stand aside and allow us to do what we have to do, because we know who it is that is working in our interest. Go ahead and tell the people of lorde Borde, Pointe Mitchel that the money could be better spent elsewhere. I suppose it will not be politically wise so to do.

It could not have been better said by A Jean La Pointe. Some people really do not know what they really want to see. The same project that they claimed to be an election bluff, now they are finding ways and means to complain because it has become a reality. Yes my people..God help us.

Is this project different from the Soufriere to Gallette to Scott’s-Head road? Just make sure that the project does not all affect the water-power system in the villages. That the villages have high-power water. Good to see that the road infrastructure in Pointe-Michel to Soufriere to Galion to Scott’s-Head is being taken care of. Thanks to the PM. Great job.

    Dear honorable Minister.
May I take the opportunity to thank you for your actions being taken in expediting the urgency addressed in my previous photos and leTters.

May I also take the opportunity to thank DNO for hosting them. You acts are those af a True Good Corporate Citizen and in stark contrast to what those who would like to make our citizenry equate bribes with being a good corporate citizen.
    Sincerely
