Two senior 4-H representatives have received a silver award at the Caribbean Junior Culinary Conference and Challenge recently held in Barbados.
Lizanne and Leticia Roach, students of the Pierre Charles Secondary School (PCSS), represented the Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT) at that competition.
The two presented a dish which featured a variety of Dominican produce at the competition.
Lizanne said this was done, “so that other countries could see what we really produce.”
“Too many times we focus on other countries products so we had to bring out our Dominican product,” she stated at a press briefing held at the DYBT conference room.
Lizanne, who is also the President of the 4-H Club at her school, said the experience in Barbados was a great one.
“The experience in Barbados was a great, it was a great opportunity for us because we participated to represent our country and then we competed among other individuals who already have a great experience in culinary, unlike us that don’t have that as a major in Dominica,” she said. “So to see ourselves participating in a huge competition like that and to win tastiest dish, best time, great techniques, and a silver award, it was great.”
Lizanne and Leticia were also among the winners of the Local Dinner Plate Competition held at the Dominica Grammar School on April 18.
Meanwhile 4-H Coordinator Shirley Alexander said it’s been seven years since the 4-H Club have been hosting the Dinner Plate Competition, “and through it we now have 4-H representing Dominica at the Caribbean Junior Culinary Conference and Challenge in Barbados.”
She stated further that the 4-H Club received funding amounting to $6,000 for the Annual National 4-H Choral Speech and Public Speaking Competition to be held at the Public Service Union Building, in Roseau on November 17.
“We have realized at the youth division that we need to keep each other contented, each programme supports the other,” Alexander noted. “It’s really the finals of the eight district competitions that we had earlier in the year as part of our district festivals and the theme we are carrying is ‘Family Farming.’ We see the importance of our young people being more involved in agriculture and agro-processing, the reason for the marriage between the Dinner Plate Competition and family farming.”
So proud of you ladies. Keep it up.
DNO, They are students of the Dominica State College. They are pas students of PCSS
When the Roach family decides to do something they do it well. We believe in excellence and we abhor mediocracy.
Monica, John, Lizeaane, Lettitia, Nadege and Khan, they all came top in what ever they did.
congratulations my nieces and nephew.
these are two young ladies that Dominica should look forward too in the future. They are multi talented. Congratulations to my sisters with love from yalls bro <3
Congratulations Twins!! May this serve as motivation to a career in that field!!
Mr. Roach is in charge of the Youth DIvison and his whole family are key to Youth DIvison from the COuncil to 4H
It matters not who Mr. Roach is the important thing here is these two beautiful young ladies can go out and proudly represent their country and do well. Many young people do not want to follow their families footstep and dip into what ever it is they are encouraged to do but these two young girls embrace the opportunity not because they have benefits in it but because they want to and it creates a wonderful impression on our youth; showing that they can be beautiful talented creative sports oriented and be the bomb.
It would please most that young people are in the news for things I personally don’t hold up to high regard like ‘Ms. this and Ms. That” all how you turn is a beauty pageant. I’m impressed with these young ladies and I dont care who their father is or whom he represents.
These twins rock.
i telling u…give them what is theirs they neverrr leave their own behind
Congratulations my two friends. Keep up the good work.
