As Buju Banton says goodbye to his freedom for what could be at least six years behind US prison walls for a drug conviction, the Rastafarian reggae artiste says he intends to spend his time seeking higher learning.
Speaking exclusively with the Sunday Observer after his 10-year sentence was handed down in the Sam Gibbons Federal Court in Tampa, Florida last Thursday, Banton (real name Mark Anthony Myrie) said he was already attending classes inside the Pinellas County Jail in Tampa and planned to attain a master’s degree by the time his federal sentence is served.
A master’s degree wont do you an good in Jamaica fool. stop giving this fool a past. this idiot help destroy social beauty of Jamaica. he should have gotten 20 years.
good move buju!!
we are on your side forever – BUJU – u take the fall now – they frame you – we know that – keep your head up – get your degree – you’ll get out one day – you will be free – your mind is free and clear – BUT they WILL pay for their sins – one way or another.
and after all that we still say…boom bye bye…in a batty boy head
Studying political science does not necessarily mean he wants to be a politician….Besides we dont know his potential and his determination. We may be who we are today but we can determine who we become. Our future is our responsibility. We should therefore be happy when persons decide to do better for themselves.
Marijuana is the first step to the introduction of cocain.Satan is using these musicians to do his dirty little work for him and deceiving the majority of the innocent young people.Hope he gets a masters degree in righteous living. I wish him well. And for God sake dont put that devil’s stick in your mouth again. That thing called marijuana.

Do you ever approve peoples classified? Its been over a week now since i posted.
Time is the most valuable assett in life .We are free to do whatever we want with it, and be rewarded for it acordingly. We all do things in our lifetime thatwe either proud or regreat.it is up to one to find a way to pick up oneself. That said;BUJU have chosen to uplife himself with the time he is given, that’s his way, whatever anyone of us say not going to change that.one can only learn from his sitution, what is important to remember is,HIS infront OURS behind.for those of us casting stones.
@ non-religious
Contemplate on this. You did not give yourself life and time. God gave it to you and He will take it away when this allotted life and time is up. Then will commence your eternal judgment. Get religious before it is too late for you.
what a load of nonsense you all talking, de man was selling illegal drugs dey had proof so he not set up, and for you all to wish de man good luck, lets see if you wish him luck when some one from your family die from badly made cocaine.
for some one to be able to educate demselve while being punished id outragous, we need to get him to those prison dey have in thailand for de drugs, it is disgusting that dis is happening and he bragging about it, just disgusting
He’s gonna study political science and economics,is he gonna be a politition one day or has he learned a lesson that he needs to understands how the shitstem operates so he can be on par with it?
Studying political science does not necessarily mean you are going to be a politician
You go for it…time to reflect…you committed the crime…
Had it been an air plain of marijuana I would understand, but no real Rastafarian should get involve in white mans powder…B.J-B should have known better….you disappointed your people…
That’s the way it is,christians want to change this world into a shit pit and no one must say nothing.
@ Fire
Generalizing again! The pot calling the kettle black?
It is clear to see that the christians went after this man with a venom, for putting fire a the batty boys. All those involve in putting him away are christians.Police, infirmant, judge jury all christians.
BUJU REALISED HIS MISTAKE IF TAKING CLASSES
FOR A MASTERS WILL KEEP YOUR MIND FOCUS GO FOR IT.
selling cocaine is the job of babylon and not rastafari.Bouju is a baldheadand smoke what he sold
Ignorant!!!!
the guy put it on himself and i wish him good lock on his persuit
good luck mr buju! i wish u all the best..u will be out by 6yrs
BUJU INNOCENT – THEM WRONGSIDE MEN AND WOMEN FRAME HIM!!!!!
One can’t be one foot in and one foot out less one stumbles. While being critical of gays of which i am too,one has to be clean especially when one is in a position like Buju.If u are preaching against evil and abominable acts Buju Bantan should not allow himself to be baited until he is caught. This proves how rastas worship the wrong god and they seem to be arrogant on top of that, repent all ye rastas and worship the true and living GOD who is spirit.
that is better than bulling OK
word: it is not for u to judge a man’s religion nor condemn him because his beliefs defer from yours, the god that u worship certainly did not bestow upon u that authority. “judge not” isn’t that among the instructions written in your bible? in our self righteousness we play god and we’re blinded by a false sense of supremacy, casting judgement on others while we ourselves fall short and fail the teachings of our own faith.
no one asks that u accept rastafarianism as your own nor that u subscribe to it’s teachings but it would be wise if u at least respect the choice of those who embrace it. as multicultural as we are and as free as we are to practice the religion of our choosing we should learn to coexist without casting aspersions on each other’s beliefs, this is the only true pathway to peace.
it’s quite positive that Buju can find the inspiration to pursue a degree and seek to uplift himself under such unfortunate circumstances.
Read the excerpt from Desmond Tutu’s ” God Is Not A Christian” again and try to catch his message.

Amen! Hallelujah! Let the word of God be upheld in all it’s integrity! Praises to the Holy Trinity!
But even those of us who worship the true and living God, falter at times. So why not remove the beam from our eyes before we try telling the rastars and others about the splinter in theirs. But yes i got ur point.Praises to Jah God Almighty.Who is really worthy of casting the first stone? NO me for sure.
I don’t even get your point.. total stupidity
If u are so religious please tell me where in the Bible or in any other book used by any religion where it says that man is for man. U have sex out of marriage and u make love to another man. If u didnt know people in every religion sin at some point in their life just like yourself. Hitler was a wicked man and a catholic. So please dont have any dislike for rastas.
4Real,i am definitely not a religious person and i’m also disappointed with christianity.I also oppose and condmn all forms of abomination as the bible also does. The bible does not belong to any religion or group,it’s a book for all those who seeks righteousness.Stop taking offense and stick to the reasoning that i brought forward. No religion is the way to JAH and this includes rastafarianism.
He made a grave mistake and is paying for it. I hope he has learned a lesson. He will have a lot of time to reflect and wish to change.
Be careful of the company you keep. People find themselves in situations that they never anticipated.
In his position he met and associated with a lot of shady characters who got him in trouble.
This is why I keep in mind the following words as I learnt and recall from childhood: “There but for the grace of go I.”
He deserves a second chance. He is young and has some years ahead of him. If he pursues this degree, he could obtain another career.
He may not serve the full ten years if he has good behavior. I wish him success.
