The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development recently received $8000 worth of school supplies from the CARICOM Staff Association to go toward the Pichelin Primary and Petite Savanne Primary Schools.

This is the latest of various donations received from friendly organizations following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on August 27.

Curvelle David, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana made the presentation to Assistant Chief Education Officer, Dr. Jeffrey Blaize.

Ms. David told the presentation ceremony the CARICOM staff members were saddened by the devastation caused by the floodwaters of Tropical Storm Erika.

“Immediately we recognized the need to assist our brothers and sisters in Dominica through their recovery efforts. As a community we saw it was imperative to stand in solidarity with the people of Dominica.

“The association initiated a small project dubbed ‘Back to School Supplies Drive for Dominica,’ to assist the students who would have lost their belongings just before the start of school,” David said.

Dr. Jeffrey Blaize said the Ministry was grateful for the timely assistance provided to affected students
