Cheaper funding for tertiary studies coming soon

Persons wishing to obtain funding to further their studies at tertiary institutions will soon be able to access finances at lower costs through a special financial assistance package.

The Government, through the Ministry of Education shall be making these packages available to students at a two percent interest rate.

According to Minister of Public Works and Ports Rayburn Blackmoore on Kairi FM’s Heng program this morning, this initiative comes as part of the Government’s mandate to ensure that every household in Dominica has a university graduate.

“When I went to study my interest rate was about 10 percent. Now we realized a number of us including the prime minister who had to go and study and work hard to go to school … we want to ensure that every household in Dominica has a university graduate and that is why this Government supports this…” the minister said.

The minister also mentioned a new loan scheme which will be offered by the Agricultural Industrial & Development (AID) Bank from September, where a total of $10 million will be made available for ordinary persons to get funds to build their homes.

The only thing is the AID back has to look at the way they are doing things since I know from experience even if you pay you instalments on time and regularly (not missing any monthly payments), there seems to be that thing about late fees and extra payments and you keep paying and paying and your principal ain’t going down. So Someone needs to investigate the AID Bank system. It happenned with Housing Loans and Student loans and when you move from the AID Bank to other organisation – like the Credit Union, you see strides made when you make your monthly payments. Something wrong with the AID Bank System.

So Ray you could not let the Minister of Education make the announcement then? It not your ministry so why you rushing to break the news? You still have not learned after the Chinaman debacle. Thats why there will always be in-fighting in the labor camp. Everybody want to be the second hero. Anyway, thats still good news even if it came too late for people like me.
