Access to education, exercising their right to participate and exercising their right to play are top three findings on what make children free to be children, according to a report.
Children and youth in Dominica and St. Vincent enrolled with ChildFund Caribbean joined 1,300 children from 41 other countries to participate in a consultation on which the report is based.
Some of the key conclusions are:
• Globally, top three findings on what makes children feel free to be children are: access to education, exercising their right to participate and exercising their right to play
• Globally, of top priority for children overall are: a good education, protection from violence and gender equality, among others.
• Globally, the top three among most cited forms of violence against children are: sexual violence, child labour and physical violence
• Children value greatly, adults who play a supportive and protective role in their lives.
• They want country leaders to: create and enforce legislation, raise awareness on violence and exploitation of children, punish offenders and perpetrators…
Based on these conclusions ChildFund is urging everyone “to support the cause to end violence here at home and globally and create lasting legacy of love and respect for all children of all walks of life so that children can be safe, strong and free.”
The organization also said “children should be appreciated and cared for in environments where parents and adults in institutions and communities value and protect the rights and well-being of children.”
Universal Children’s Day was observed globally on November 20.
Great job by ChildFund and my girl, Gelina Fontaine for the positive vibes.
