On Tuesday grade K-2 of the Zion Christian Academy, along with two first formers, engaged in a clean up campaign at the Donkey Beach in Cane Field.
This was one of the culminating activities of the school’s Social Studies lessons on the environment and natural resources. The pupils left with a deeper appreciation for the environment and a better understanding of the heavy price of littering. The activity lasted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sad to say towards the end of the clean up campaign a group of workers from a nearby facility gathered to have lunch there and left the remains of their meals there. The students were deeply disappointed as they had just cleaned the area.
Overall they felt contented and enthusiastic for a job well done.
Good initiative Zion. I think this is a good move and am sure it had a positive impact on the kids.
The good thought would not go unmissed but I mean what about the grown and young fellas that does nothing for the whole day. They should also take the initiative and do something. Secondly, the kids are exposed to all sorts of viruses and germs.Supposing that one of the kids fonds a used condom?
Good job by the children.
Iagree that there could have been dangerous/hazardous items left on the beach, but surely the organisers would have been watching the children like hawks, and their parents would have been notified in advance , they if they had any worries they could have objected.
To the so called adults, shame on you. Lets hope you dont do that at home.
to the students you did a great job.
continue to make an effort to keep your environment clean, because cleanliness is next to Godliness.
to the workers who dropped their foods stuff there after the children were threw cleaning.SHAME ON YOU!
you guys are making this quote true: “habits at home carried abroad”
so people lets continue to make our surroundings clean and take the example from these young ones.
i totaly agree there could be somthing dangerous
oh cute its nice that small children can contribute to Dominica by keeping it clean.and good for the school to thats so good of them
Cute Kids. I am truly impressed with your efforts. Too bad for the litter bugs. Kids, do not let this stop you from taking care of the environment and doing other good and wonderful things that need to be done. God’s Blessings always.
I mean is somebody keeping a tally as to how many clean ups that this beach and others have had over the last decade – the moral of the story is that our people are not getting the message – we are a nasty people – the children will do a fantastic job however we pass there next week and guess what is like there waas never cleaned.
Wake my people take full responsibility for your actions stop littering stop the indescriminate dumping of waste – for a better cleaner and healthy Dominica Please.
I agree with patriot, cleaning the beach might not be sure a great idea for kids their age, but hats off to the person who had the idea to make kids more aware of their surroundings.
I appreciate the message that they are trying to impact on the kids. However I don’t think it wise to have kids this age messing with garbage particularly in such a public area.
There could be anything in there. For example “Bio hazards” and sharp rusted objects. That picture looks cute, but what if they were to drop it on their feet?? I don’t think the parents would think that is cute.
At that age I was taught tidiness by being made to pick up the trash on my classroom floor and the school yard.
Good, could not have said it better
good job kids ,and shame on the liter bug……….
good job kids…..keep it up and try to continue to better ur future.
