Eleven-year-old Diane Robinson has won the Rotaract Club of Roseau/Haliborange Primary Schools Spelling bee competition held recently at the Arawak House of Culture.
Robinson, a pupil of the WS Stevens School, will represent Dominica at the regional spelling bee finals in St. Lucia next month. The sixth grader spelt most of her words correctly at the highly competitive event.
Her prizes include a laptop computer, a year supply of Haliborange Omega 3 vitamins, the winner’s trophy and other prizes from sponsors. The spelling bee champion told journalists following her victory that she felt “excited and happy” after she was named Rotaract spelling bee champion.
Coming in a close second was Lydia Ettienne of the Delices Primary School. She won EC$1,000 cash, a half year supply of Haliborange Omega 3 vitamins and other prizes from sponsors.
Dante Scotland of Convent Prep was the third-place student. He also took home some attractive prizes.

Cograts Dante’. You have done exceedingly well. You have proved that you are a great speller. This was your first chance and you have shone your talent. Keep it up young man and continue to excel not only in such competitions but in everything you set yourself to do. Show them what you are made of.
we talk a lot about positive initiatives taken up by students and I was shocked to note dat there was little media coverage and support by schools as well as the public in this competition. I hope next time will even be better. Lets encourage positive Change.
