The Dominica Girl Guides Association will on Saturday, January 22, 2011 hold a seeds distribution ceremony, which forms part of the activities to eradicate extreme hunger and in keeping with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS), Global Action Theme “Together we can change the world”.
This theme affirms WAGGGS commitment to the most compelling global agenda of our times the United Nations Millennium Developmental Goals.
‘Eradication of Extreme Hunger’ forms part of the eight-point millennium developmental goals. All UN member states signed up to measurable targets with clear deadlines, the ultimate deadline being 2015, by which all goals should be achieved.
The Dominica Girl Guide Association believes that there are many persons in society who do not have the means to provide for themselves. By providing the individuals with the seeds they would then be able to:
1) plant and enjoy seeing their plant grow
2) in a few weeks reap the fruit of their labor creating pride and increasing the confidence of the individual that they were not given a hamper but instead they grew their own food.
3) this can also assist in creating the means for improving their economic status.
4) and fulfilling the MDG # 1
Girl Guides Units all around the island will gather at the Convent Prep. School ground from 10 am. After the ceremony the Units will go back to their communities to assist in the planting of the seeds.
Great !!!
Thumbs up!
Excellent idea girl guides. I trust that the individuals that you all have chosen put the seeds into good use and cultivate the crops. Continue to do a good job from a former girl guide
