The Dominica Seventh-day Adventists Secondary School celebrated “Boy’s Week” during the period February 27th to March 2nd 2012 under the theme “Positivity: the avenue for innovation, dedication and determination.”
The focus of the week was the male students who were encouraged to assume an attitude of positivity as they seek to be role models at school and in the society.
The week featured several presenters, including Corporal Carlyle Scotland, Elias Orville Dupuis (Business Proprietor) and Yuru Monsanto (Human Resource Manager at Ross University School of Medicine) who charged the boys to be positive, determined and dedicated as they move forward with new innovations.
Thursday 1st March, 2012, was dubbed professional day and the males came to school formally dressed. On that day the senior males engaged in “Students’ Governance” where they took charge of the classrooms under their teachers’ supervision.
Another highlight of the program took place on Friday when numerous boys were awarded.
The categories of awards included Christian citizenship, leadership, discipline, punctuality, and academics. During this award ceremony, Peter Panthier an outstanding alumni received an award for his positivity and his contribution to the society. He is an exemplary employee of LIME, a playwright and a great role model in his community.
Hats off to the planning committee, principal and staff of the Dominica SDA Secondary School since Dominican boys need the attention to provide the foundation for the future.

Our future leaders—good luck
I am now hesitant to even comment on such an article. Two years ago I took noticed of all the attention that young females were getting in Dominica and compared it to the circumstances of their male peers. It was apparent that in Dominica there is a vast disparity between the fortunes of the two sexes in terms of various programs and exposure in talent shows etc. In a post on DNO, I made this observation and appealed to Dominicans to intensify our efforts with directing the future of our young men especially in light of the increased rate of crime which is perpetrated primarily by males. Unfortunately, many readers did not agree with me and some went on to suggest that maybe I should set up a queen show for the guys and even participate in it. Needless to say, boys are easily swayed by peers and it takes greater effort to keep them on the straight and narrow than it takes for ‘most’ girls. Kudos to SDA Secondary School for their recognition of our young males. I have a 17 year old son and I am constantly worried. May God bless our youth, be they male or female.
I just knew that Irv would be in that pic. Good job to you guys
The boys look so sharp!! Way to go boys!! We need excellent future husbands and fathers.. So much negativity out there!! Keep your heads up, learn in school and strive for your goals!!
Hats off to our young men. That’s the way to go.
keep positive young men do your best keep it up.all the best in u all future.
I’m proud to be a SDA…. Didn’t went to the school… I’m regretting now. Even if I’m a disciplined young man in my community… My Cxc grades would be better! Big Up!
do you really thing the school you went to would make a difference in your grades? or is it that you could have worked harder?
Yes I could work harder…. But SDA teachers put their all into teaching….. PSS teachers will run home as soon as the bell rings….. A few might stay back….. but at SDA all will stay back….. even have weekend camps to complete the syllabus….. , Moreover, there are week of prayer, devotions etc which help instill good values to the students….. I can go on….. but I have stuff to complete….. is a vybz! Big Up SDA!
The school you attend indeed makes a difference, if not there would have been no need for Ivy League schools.
Hmmm
for real. cause if you had gone to that school you would not be saying things like “Didn’t went to the school”
I like to see young men trying thier best to be possitive. So much negative is out there. dDo your best guys.. keep it up. S.D.A IS A WELL DICIPLINED SCHOOL IN THE GLANVILLIA COMMUNITY.
A A see urve way to go
Excellent initiative by an exemplary school & I am not a seventh day adventist. I love the people & what they do to build human resource. having worked with them sometimes over the years, this kind of positive initiative is not surprising. Encouraging the young men to keep positive.
