Dominica State College student to participate in Semester at Sea Program

Semester at Sea Program is an overseas study program.

Rene Rocque, a Dominica State College Student in the hospitality and tourism degree program, has been selected by the Virginia, U.S.A.-based Semester at Sea Program as an Inter-port Student representing Dominica.

Rene will be joining the Ship MV Explorer in Nassau on January 12, 2011 and will travel with the American students back to Dominica.

On the ship she is expected to interact with the other students to help them learn about the people, culture, history and other aspects of Dominica and will be presenting to some classes on the ship.

The Institute for Shipboard Education is providing for her room and board during her stay on the ship.

Rene’s parents purchased the ticket to fly to Nassau, while the college was responsible for selection and preparation of the student.

President of the College, Donald C. Peters was grateful to Rene’s parents for supporting their daughter to seize the opportunity to learn at sea.  He said the college community is proud to have another Dominica State College Student interact with other international students and we consider it an honor for Rene and the college to participate in a distinctive program such as the Semester at Sea Program.

Katie Julien is the Head of the Hospitality Program and coordinated the student’s participation.

Rene is due to arrive in Dominica on January 17, 2011.

At Last. So many years have I been preaching that if we want to benefit from the cruise trade we must send people to experience it so we can develop ideas whci will benefit our local industry.
Bravo, Donald. For once in your miserable life you are proving to be of some use.
