Three Dominican students earned degrees at Midwestern State University’s Commencement Ceremony May 2012.
They were among 44 Caribbean students who also walked the stage.
Kyle Francis earned magna cum laude honors and a bachelor of science in computer science.
Allisa Matthew earned cum laude honors with a bachelor of business administration in accounting.
Annaton Nesty earned her bachelor of science in respiratory care.
Keynote speaker, Jacinth Henry-Martin, St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador to the US, urged the graduates to hold on to dreams and believe in miracles.
She delivered a positive charge to them to be true to themselves.
The ceremonial weekend also featured a concert by Jamaican singer Wayne Wonder and Claudette Peters of Antigua who who performed for the crowd of over 400.
Over 100 Dominican students have earned degrees from Midwestern since 1995.
Fifteen new students from Dominica will be accepted to Midwestern State University in August 2012, and will be part of the over 1000 who have been recruited in the 19 year history of the program.
The Government of Dominica provides support to individual students and to the program in general.
Congratulations to the graduates and thanks for this brief story. We’re don’t know DNO’s source of info, but there was at least one other student who graduated from MSU May 12 – Kimone Ferrol.
Also DNO neglected to mention Fabiola Corbette as a recent MSU graduate. Both Kimone and Fabiola earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology.
I am a Trinidadian female who went to Primary school in Dominica. I recently found a drawing I did with my friend Kimone Ferrol. I was trying to locate her on facebook but I don’t think she is on.. I hope to get in contact with her one day ..
ps – I know this is not part of the discussion, I just thought I’d mention that I know Kimone .. Also, many congrats to her on her achievements.
I attented the MSU school of Business and just for the record, the UWI business program is a joke compared to it. Too often I have to be teaching UWI MBA graduates certain business principles. My marketing professor was the retired head of Hewlett packard marketing, My Economics professor was the chairman of the Texas Board of Economic Advisors to the Governor, My law Professor was a retired Attorney General of Whichita falls who had an unblemish career by never losing a case. My Advisor Dr. Randy Glean is a graduate of the famed George Town University. MSU graduates work for the top companies in the US and the region and they are performing with excellence. MSU has been in existence since 1922 and is owned by the State of Texas. These are just a few facts which cannot be challenged.

That’s precisely the point. You were taught by PQ rather than AQ faculty.

aye big up to my boy kyle..we extra proud of u my boy!
Excellent ! Hope they will be returning home to take DA forward!
Now that these students have earned a dimploma when will they receive a real education? The educational standards and rigor at MSU and Grambling are well below national norms and our D/can students deserve better.
Very rude of you to state that MSU’s education is below national norms. Go do some research on the number of Dominican MDs and PhDs who did their undergrad studies at Midwestern State University. After you’ve completed your research, find out how many Caribbean graduates who did the same and continue to excel in their field of work/study. This is completely disrespectful. If you’ve not walked the walk at MSU…please refrain from stating what you’ve heard or think is going on at MSU.
‘Below national norms’? Care to QUOTE your SOURCES of this information or are you the President of these ACCREDITED Universities?? hmmm
The fact is, the US is not a standardized country in terms of education, and the university education you get will vary in excellence from place to place. Tell me, Mr MSU Alumnus, is the education you received at MSU comparable to that you would have received at Princeton University, Yale, Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford, UCL, UWI, SGU, MIT…I’m not discounting those who have excelled at this university, but the US has various accreditation boards and some take education more seriously than others, if you will. Chances are, if you do not get the best or second best education in the US, you will end up settling for a lot less and it is more worthwhile to study at a university outside the US.
Finally, someone else sees it. Why do we insist on offering scholarships and recommending substandard universities to our students? Is it because we cannot see someone progress further than we have, or do we wish to deprive the young and able of a good education simply because they may return and be our supervisors and bosses later?
Why try so hard to take the wind out of those students’ sail? “Of the forty-three men to have been President {of the US}, twenty-four of them graduated from a private college, nine graduated from a public college, and ten did not graduate from a college.” – Wikipedia.
Some people only feel good when they are criticising. Is dem so bringing de kuntry down.
Congrats to all well done.
DominicanS really performs well abroad. I am a freshman at University and some people usually asks, which part of the world are you from? Excellence is communicated in the classroom!I know for sure i am on my way to graguating with “HONNORS!!”
