Dominican students at UVI to organize poetry contest

Members of Dominicans at University of the Virgin Islands (DAU)

Dominicans at University of the Virgin Islands (DAU) is to organize a poetry contest for Dominican high school students in the very near future in which participants will be given a chance to present their creativity.

Also the group recently initiated plans to donate stationery and classroom supplies to a primary school in need in Dominica. Further details on the contest and the donations will be posted soon.

DAU comprises of a talented and determined group of young Dominicans at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI). They have sought to represent Dominica in the best way possible at this institution.

DAU showcased their talent by hosting a small concert/talent show last year in recognition and celebration of Dominica’s 31st Independence celebrations. The event was a tremendous success. The group proved that talent was phenomenally present when they performed poetry, songs, calypsos, modeling, cultural dances and the highlight of the event, the famous ‘play’. The play focused on the young generation of our native society, highlighting the challenges they face and ways in which the folks of older generations can transmit the rich cultural Dominican heritage.

Although these young individuals are abroad, they hold strong the belief that Dominica is ours to build and we should strive unceasingly and fervently to push our country forward.

The groups motto:

“From the Isle of Beauty,
We strive for unity,
We hold our heads up high,
Dominicans at UVI”

“See how education just opens minds and creates positivity? Sophistication and and Prestige, these are the two best words to describe these individuals, keep on taking what is yours(education) and giving back to society.” “Wish you all the best!”
