Dominican students shine at Midwestern State University

msu

Dominican students were featured on the list of honors for spring 2015 at Midwestern State University.

Semester honors are awarded in three categories. The President’s List for students earning a perfect 4.0 GPA featured eight Dominicans, the largest foreign delegation on that list. Honor recipients are Sherma Daniel, Gem Eloi, Renatta Graham, Theona Honore, Shadai John, Delize Paul, Samara Stedman, and Shamberia Thomas.

The Provost list for persons at 3.75 or higher featured Jaime Abraham, Blanche Crystal Baron, Recardo Christopher, Erine Fontaine, Sheldon Hillaire, and Sherma Proctor;

And the Dean’s list for those at 3.5 or higher featured Benni Joseph, Ashrel Prosper, Rochie Royer, and Kerris Shillingford.

MSU extends commendation to all the Dominican students who continue to make the nation proud. A large group of Dominican students will enroll at the university with partial scholarships this fall. The university thanks the government of Dominica for its continued commitment to this 22 year old program.

The local mobilization of prospective students is handled by Mr. David Vital of lead institute, an MSU alumnus, who serves as the university’s designated local coordinator.

    The pursuit of an education is probably one of the most humbling experiences, and it is so good to see our students performing with such commanding excellence at this level. But the question I have is whether these children are accumulating educational debt – one of the fastest growing contemporary responsibilities for young people who are trying to carve a future for themselves- and if so are there protocols in place to assist them meet these needs. If not here goes another diaspora brain drain, for which no one can blame them.

    This does not surprise me….. We are Dominicans! when given a chance to better ourselves, most of us take the opportunity and run with it. Great job by the current set of students, and may they serve as the standard for future Dominican students at this institution of higher education.

    I’m not surprised in the least that Crystal is on that list. As her teacher in both primary and secondary schools she has ALWAYS been the best. The very best is still to come.
