Dominican students Hanna Julianna St Jean and Eric Mickael Serrant have both excelled at their studies at a Venezuelan university.
St. Jean from the village of Boetica and Serrant from St Joseph are both scholarship students of the Dominica-Venezuela scholarship programme.
They have graduated with “honorific distinction from the Universidad de Oriente, of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on the 29th of March 2012”, according to a release sent to DNO by St Jean.
St. Jean says she received the honorific mention “Magna Cum Laude” placing her on top of her branch (Núcleo Monagas) of 134 graduates and 2nd among 825 graduates of the 5 branches of the University.
Serrant on the other hand obtained the honorific mention “Cum Laude” occupying the 2nd place of his branch and 4th overall.
They both received a Licentiate/Bsc in Human Resource Management, according to the release.
The two have expressed their gratitude to the government of Dominica for this opportunity.
They are also encouraging other young people to take advantage of the scholarship programmes.
While I commend Miss St. Jean and Mr. Serrant on an excellent job done, I need to express my disatisfaction on the one sided thing. In my year of study, there were two students from different schools in venezuela who were valedictorians and topped the graduating class who were Delly Francis and Almera Henry and Dominica had this nowhere on the news. I guess we were the scape goats and didnt deserve to be advertised. Now everyone knows about Venezuela and how they’re good everyone gets the spot light. Felecitaciones mi gente.
ADMIN: If they, or you, had taken the time to write us and tell us of their accomplishments, we would have published it. These young people took the time and wrote to us and told us of their accomplishments. We don’t have a reporter in Venezuela, so we don’t know what is going on down there unless someone tells us about it. Get the point?
Admin you need to respond to people better than that…talking bout if I get the point… it would have been better if u asked if I understood

u done know I think the world knows that… good for eric man…
Magna Cum Laude deserves mention but cum laude? I think not. At least they learn the art of puffing their resumes.
Why you have to be such a hater? To do well in a college of a foreign language is a great achievement. Chill out, man or shut your pie hole!
I bet you never went to university so you have no idea what it takes to get a high honor. I am a receipient of a high honor — it takes a lot of sleepless nights and dedication. Stop the hating and appreciate the fact that we have two more highy educated people who are proud Dominicans.
congratulatyions but i urge u to help some young people who r willing to learn to find out how to realy get a scholarship cause me myself tried n tried but it seems is who know who dat getting d help so help a friend a neighbour t get to the top like u did thats what education is about………one lovw

Imagine i was so confident i checking i had done so well in college so i stand a chance, them people never ever contacted me! Maybe the secretary had even shread my application!!!! stupes

Congratulations to both students!!
Is there automatic employment for these two bright kids on their return to Dominica?
Seeing as the Government sent them to study Human Resources and this is study a field where one can not easily be self-employed.
Seeing as the Government sent them to study Human Resources and this is a field of study where one can not easily be self-employed.
DNO why don’t you have an edit facility?
Did the Government choose their course of study? DO your research.
marcus hill human resources can be used anywhere where a large number of employees are,for example a hotel,so the government does not have to be obligated to employ them just because they sent them to study,
They can create opportunities for themselves in that field even if it may be a bit challenging.
While I know we do not have jobs here, and admit that enough of an enabling environment is not created, I think we sometimes remain too dependent on Government. Education is a tool – by facilitating it, Government has done a fair share.
We should not expect at all times that we are both taught how to fish and given the fish.
ANOTHER ST.JO PERSON WE ARE PROUD TO BE FROM THAT
VILLAGE.
me too hun love this place not leaving it for a thing
congats eric your mother must be real proud keep it up

Congratulation to Miss St. Jean and Mr Serrant, and to ALL the students who graduated.
It cannot be easy to study in another country with a different culture and language, away from family and friends, and still stay focus.
Wishing you all a bright future.

Wow!!! I love hear news like that. I look forward to my child achieving these high honors some day soon, I can’t wait, just praying. God bless you both and keep on achieving. Don’t forget SALVATION because those honors you just achieve will have no value in the kingdom.
