Residents of Dominica interested in post-graduate studies in the United Kingdom now have the opportunity to do so under the Chevening Scholarship Scheme.
The scheme is accepting applications from interested persons on the island for the 2014/2014 academic year.
Registration opens on September 1 and runs till Friday, November 8, after which no further applications will be accepted.
The scheme gives the opportunity to Dominicans who wish to pursue fully funded postgraduate studies at an academic institution in the UK.
The Chevening Scholarships scheme is the global scholarship programme of the British government.
The Scholarships are awarded to exceptional individuals with leadership potential who come from 116 countries worldwide. They enable recipients to study one-year Masters courses in a range of subjects at UK universities.
The Scholarships are funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and aim to support UK foreign policy priorities by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers and decision makers.
The Chevening programme has, over 26 years, provided more than 30,000 Scholarships at Higher Education Institutions in the UK for postgraduate students or researchers from countries across the world.
Chevening scholarships are prestigious and sought after awards aimed at extremely capable individuals who have already made an impact and are motivated to pursue a career that will take them to a position of leadership within their own country or region.
In the Eastern Caribbean, three of the members of the St Lucia Cabinet are Chevening alumni, as well as many other leaders in business, journalism, the judiciary and government service.
Dominicans and Eastern Caribbean nationals should go to www.Chevening.org to register interest or apply.
We only now have the opportunity? I am not even going to say more but just that people there are ways you can do your own search. Scholarship for development http://scholars4dev.com is a good place to start. Go also directly to the OAS scholarship website. When we wait on the Govt we miss out at times.
Dominica is not included in the list of countries
apparently you don’t know where your country is. if you go to the website. click the find your country tab at the top. then select Caribbean on the side and locate Dominica you would find it.
Hi I was able to find Dominica once I went into “find your country” and moved the mouse above the Dominica map.
This takes you to a page entitled “Barbados & the Eastern Caribbean”, which similarly is the same for most of the respective islands, with the exception of Trinidad & Tobago who have their own page, and Jamaica shares a page with Bahamas.
Hope this gives you clarity and if you’re interested in pursuing post-grad studies in the UK, I say go for it as the experience will be one to cherish for always.
Best of luck!
Too bad i’m not post-grad
Don’t worry sweetheart you can get there if you’re not already and I say if you really want to get there, then you just will!
