Dominicans take up scholarship in Morocco

Arrow points to Morocco, located on the left of the map.

Dominicans looking to further their education overseas are taking advantage of another alternative.

Fifteen locals will leave the island for Morocco with full scholarships at the end of January, Minister for Trade Collin McIntyre has
revealed.

The scholarships are being granted for various disciplines including medicine and engineering, and government says sending students to the African country will add diversity to Dominica’s skilled force.

“Our intention as a government is to concentrate more on the areas of deficiencies in terms of our educational programs and what we would like in terms of expertise,” McIntyre said.

Dominica established diplomatic relations with Morocco in June 2010; the two nations have been seeking to strengthen ties.

The set of Dominicans leaving for Morocco shortly is the first batch of 15 benefiting from Morocco-Dominica relations in the area of education.

Sharia Law, in morocco!!!!!! hehehhe you kidding if they apply it, then we will be the first country in the world in every field (life style, economy, science….)! but the reality is that
sharia law is not applying any where in the world. only few countries like Malaysia, Uk, French etc(http://www.homesoverseas.co.uk/news/Sharia_law_enters_France/8971-1002) are trying to applying sharia law in finance to scape their economic crisis,

Generally, study abroad will open your mind to see the real world without the media glasses.

While we welcome the generous acts of foreign governments, I think we should carefully consider the value of what is offered. A degree from a Moroccoan or Serbian institution is certainly not recognised throughout the world. It does not have the value of a degree from UWI, a UK, Canadian or an established American university. In the typical cases, persons who hold Moroccoan or Serbian degrees have to attain an American or UK qualification before they are accepted by the universities of the latter countries. I am not crying down those who have accepted the scholarships but I am simply stating the reality of international education and competition.

Excuse me, before you talk please please please get your facts. The universities in Morocco and China are some of the best. And I can tell you that the university in question is well accredited and recognized worldwide. Please get facts before you talk Conscious…I just happen to know a little more than you do.

Serbia? Cuba? China? Venezuela? Why can’t they send Dominican students to more conventional places such as the US, UK, France or Spain? Must be money…because a degree from a Moroccan university doesn’t stand solid, trust me. I live in Europe….they look for THAT institute that stands out.

That is true. It doesn’t even stand here in the U.S. I know because I got friends who are now studying side by side with me though they already have their degrees from Moroccan Universities and other African Universities. Congrats anyway…

the US, UK France & Spain are broke they can’t give free scholarship. Pay close attention to international news tuition hikes in US,UK and France in last two years, major protest by students in UK end of 2010; Spain under EU bailout< austerity measure in place.
Who runs the construction i France?

Educate yourself before making such comments.

Something wrong with cuba, china and venezuela nah pal? education is education, it’s how you make use of it that matters..you could send someone to an American Institution and they return empty headed, on the same note, you could send someone to china, and they return empty headed.. its the person’s determination that will get them through… and by the way are all these countries you talking about(UK,US,France) willing to give scholarships?

The Bible says that the earth will be filled with various forms of pestilence in the last days. All of a sudden over the last few years we have been hearing almost on a daily basis about invasive species throughout the world. Take note.

To the first batch of students. you should acceopt the oportunity and embrace it wholeheartedly. be ambassadors for your country. The culture (Arab – Muslim) will be different so be prepared for change to personal life style. Where there are young people among the lot, please do not expect a “Sewo till day break” every weekend. There will be time and opportunities I am for “sewo” especially if you can get to nearby Europe – on vacationoff course. Be focussed on your mission and make Dominica, your family and yourself proud. Give the government of Morocco soem satisfaction in alowing you to study for free at their institutions so that other Dominicans can get the opportunity as well. Importantly, get yourself a good first step into your future. Go for it and God speed with all of you.

Thank you to the GOCD that I have been selected to further my education. I really appreciate the opportunity as I would have never been able to afford university education on my own. I come from a poor family and this will definitely assist me to improve my family’s standard of living. Thanks and God Bless the Government of Dominica and Morocco.
