Dominica Electricity Services (DOMLEC), on Wednesday, made a donation in the sum of $10,000 to the Education Trust Fund.

Member of the Board of Directors of the Education Trust Fund, Glenda Castle, expressed her gratitude to DOMLEC for the contribution, and their continued support.

“I would like to say thank you, again, to DOMLEC for giving us for that very large sum, and we are really looking forward in the future that they will continue assisting us so that we can assist the needy children out there… ,” she said, at a handing-over ceremony.

Castle stated that the organization, even with the help that it received, regrettably, cannot help every needy child, and must efficiently manage the donations received.

General Manager (Ag.) of DOMLEC, Dave Stamp, described the donation as an indication of the company’s interest in the development of youth, and said that DOMLEC is happy to provide support the Education Trust Fund.

“We are always happy to collaborate with the Education Trust Fund in their efforts, as we see the fund as a vehicle through which so many young people can get the opportunity to attend and to remain in secondary school throughout the tenure,” he commented.

Stamp stated that the company places a high value on education.

“DOMLEC firmly believes in the value of education—very firmly—both internally, with regard to the continuous development of our staff, but also externally, with respect to the requirements to ensure that continued growth and national development occurs,” he revealed.

Thus, he vowed DOMLEC’s commitment “to continue to play its part and to fulfill its corporate and social responsibility in support of educational development of the island’s youth.”

He asked that other private sector organizations to support the Education Trust Fund

DOMLEC has donated to the Education Trust Fund annually for the past five (5) years.

In 2015, the company’s contribution doubled from $5,000 to $10,000.

The Education Trust Fund was established by an Act of Parliament in 1981, and its primary objective was to assist disadvantaged Dominican youth who do not have the opportunity to successfully complete secondary school because of their financial situation.
